I ordered a pair of EQTs today for my IROC. They are mono 30 band equalizers. I'm looking forward to getting the system finished. These should substantially help my sound quality, although I have never even attempted to tune 30 band eqs, so it'll no doubt take me quite some time to get it just right. I love a challenge

My freind had a pair in his S10 along with 12 12 inch subs and three zapco amps. The EQTs will make a big difference.

cool! Now I just need to figure out where in the hell I'm going to put them
. When I get them in, I'll do some measuring and see if I can get them behind a panel right in the dash. If not, they may go in the 6x9 locations. I don't have any room in the back of the car.

Time for the RTA.
Sink them into the backside (gas tank side) of the backs of the rear fold down seat. That way, when the sets are up, they are out of site and none of your friends can "adjust" them when you're not looking.
Think i'm going to get myself a PG Bass Cube (if i ever get any money).

You need two EQTs beacause the EQT is set up for only one side. You use two so you can adjust bothe right side and left side in order to correct the imbalance a cars interior creates. There is no way that both sides of the car are equal in any way whatsoever. Besides thats how Audio Control designed the EQT to work. You just have to use two of them.
BTW they wont mount where your 6X('s go unless you cut the metal out. Besides you should keep the 6X9's there but give them more power then your speakers in the dash. You really need to have a rear fill to make the car's sound quality all it can be.
I would mount the EQTs in a custom amp rack on top of the gas tank. Yea I knoe "everyone" has an amp rack there but there is a reason for it. It looks best there because you can make it high enough to where it flows into the interiors bodylines such as the back seat and the sub box if its sunk in the well. or you can make it shallow in height and then use wood panels and bondo to make curves that flow into these body lines also.

BTW Jim, I've been reading alot of your posts, and it seems you an I have very similar ideas on what makes a good stereo. I wish there were more 4th gen guys who got into aftermarket audio as the 3rd gen guys do.

Racer, read the novel that Stinger and I wrote about rear fill
Anyway, my entire rear area is already consumed by the 2 12s and my Kicker amps. I have no room left. I also don't want to chop up the rear seat if I can avoid it. Since I won't have any rear speakers, I can take advantage of that location if I need to. I'm hoping that I can get them to fit in the dash. If not, I may build a hinged amp rack and sit the EQTs right under the amps. That should keep me busy for a few months.

LOL ok I'll check it out. I found a cool looking single 12 inch sub install but I didn't realize you were the one that posted this. It was your old setup if you haven't guessed by now. Oh well. If you do the 6X9 location you'll have to do a lot of cutting and some fabrication work. However since you're not new to this I'm sure you can handle it lol. Just a thought but you could also build a rack for each one and install on on each side of lower part of the rear seats.......where the arm rest type plastics are.
One more thing, where is yall's tech article at you mentioned?

The single 12" box is in my winter car, but it's getting replaced with a 10" tube next week. Anyway, the articles are under the "Technical Articles" link on the main page of thirdgen.org, and they can also be found under the "Tech" link on iroc.fbody.com.

Hey Jim, in that post about the rear fill you briefly mentioned adding DVD to your car, and said that mobile DVD isn't really around yet.
I know you're a big Alpine fan, and was wondering if you were familliar with their Ai-net compatable components. I've been really interested in it ever since I saw their CVA-1000 in a demo car years ago in an installer's showroom and just HAD to have it, but of course, my wallet had other ideas.
Either this summer or the next, I'm going to be picking up a CVA-1005, and then their Ai-net compatable CD/DVD player. The CVA-1005 normally sells for $1,300 dollars, and I'm not sure about the DVD/CD player, but I'm sure it's pricey as well, but after checking around e-bay, I found that the CVA-1005 can be picked up for about $800, and even found a CVA-1005 with an Ai-net 6-disk changer, or the in dash cd/DVD player, for barely over a grand. This sounds pricey, but it's just something that will blow anyone away that sees it, and has TONS of awesome built in features with stellar performance and an un-paralled coolness factor. They sell a bunch of Ai-Net compatable products such as an alarm system that will display on the head unit which sensor was triggered and at what time, a crossover that can be controlled from the head unit, and of course, a navigation system. Any thoughts on any of these components?

I've looked at the alpine stuff. I'm not paying that kind of cash for a DVD player unless it's part of an indash head unit that also has a tuner and plays cds. Panasonic has one out, but it's ugly as hell. The Alpine Dolby Digital decoder also lacks DTS decoding, which is a major issue with me. The new F1 system has it, but that system is about $5,500 so it damned well should have it. Right now I'm just sitting on things and waiting to see what happens. If nothing appeals to me, I'm going to modify a home dvd player to work in the car.

I'm not a big fosgate fan but they have a decoder that will decode any type of recording including DTS. It's just the decoder and it will set you back about $500. Autotek also has a decoder and a 1.5 din cd player for sale but I don't know much about either of them. What I was looking at doing was just buying a portable DVD player from Pioneer.....the kind that has the player and screen built into one unit like a laptop. Best Buy has one that is very thin for $1000. I'm thinking of doing a custom flip down and pull out install with it.

I won't use a portable unit. They just look way too cheesy. I've got a 6" screen already, so I just need the player. I've seen the rockford decoder too, but the problem with all that crap is that you need to adjust the signal level through the piece that's doing the decoding. If I can get an indash decoder, I'll have 1 volume control no matter what source I'm using. If I go with an external decoder, I'm going to want to get a cd player with a digital output, but I'll still be up a creek when I use the radio. No free lunch here
. Except for having an all-encompassing indash unit, there's no solution that isn't a huge pain in the *** .

I don't think there will be too many cases when I'll be using the DVD player while driving, so skipping shouldn't be a major concern. The clamping and shock mechanism of the home unit should be sufficient. If not, there's always a way to damp it.
