Fm Modulator

I'm thinking of getting a cd change with one of these. How exactly does it work, and how hard is it to install?

an FM Modulated CD Changer is a regular CD changer that hooks up to the FM radio in your car. Its what i got hooked up to my Berlinetta Radio. It comes with a separate controller to change tracks and discs with, which you have to mount yourself somewhere.

Its a lifesaver if you want to keep your car stock and play CD's.

I added some amps to power the 6x9 and 4x6 and bought some subs and all my friends say it sounds good. It is easy to install, ive done it before. But for my car i went to Best Buy cuz i didnt wanna screw it up

Do you think it would be possible to hook one up to a portable cd player? Just a thought. Also, how does it know when to play the cds or when to play the radio? Thanks

If you buy a separate FM modulator, you can use it with any device that uses normal RCA outputs, including a portable cd player. The way it works is that it hooks in-line with the antenna just like Myposcamaro said. It modulates the audio on a high frequency carrier just like your local FM radio station does, and puts it on the antenna line, just like an FM radio station (well, sorta). So, let's say the modulator puts it on an 88.3mhz carrier. As far as your radio is concerned, it's just a normal radio station at 88.3mhz. So, you tune the radio to that frequency, and you get the sound in exactly the same way you would from a normal radio station.

i got my Pioneer 6disc changer at Best Buy for $230. The prices went down now, i think that same one is only $199.

But with installation and all that other bull****, it came out to like $300

quite pricy, espcially when your not getting the quality of a head unit. but like i said, if you want to keep the stock unit and play CD's.. its your only alternative

How about just getting an fm modulator? I'd like to get a changer, but I don't think my wallet will care for that too much.

yo, the FM Modulator is worthless with out the CD changer. so you need an FM Modulated CD changer

there are 2 kinds of changers. a changer that you can control with the cd player you had put in your car, and the other is a changer that you can control with a separate Remote which you mount somewhere which hooks into the stock radio.

basically, all the FM Modulated CD changer is doing is playin through a radio station.

A normal cd changer plays through the upgraded cd player and is controlled by the cd player's controls..

i cant explain it any better, sorry

Modulators are not worthless without the changer. There are plenty of stand-alone modulators available that work great whenever you need to feed an audio signal into a deck that doesn't have aux inputs.

keep your eyes on the ads in the sunday paper, esp. walmart and sometimes circuit city. They sell 6-disc changers with rf modulators and everything else you need(besides antenae adapters) for only $100. They're not brand name, but I just wanted to play cds and it works great for me.
