Pro's and Con's...???

To those that know..

what are the advantages and disadvantages of running your Remote cable to the ignition fuse of the fuse panel?

now i already ran a toggle switch to turn the amp on and off at my will, but is there any other disadvantages other than "it will turn on whenever your amp's on"??

just wondering.. and this is just a lame attempt to contributing a little somethin somethin to this board.

I'd say none whatsoever. If you hooked up JUST the remote wire to the fuse box's ignition, the wire should only draw something like 200mA max of current, very insignificant (anyone feel free to correct me on the actual current draw of the remote, i'm just guessing from memory)

The biggest disadvantage is that quite often you get a rather loud turn-on thump by doing it that way. The head unit usually delays the remote power ever so slightly until after there is signal present on the RCA lines. By running it directly from ignition (wire a .5 amp inline fuse) it turns on before a signal is present at the inputs, so quite often you get a loud thump.

is that bad for the sub? cuz i use the toggle switch (out of pure lazyness and not wanting to get behind the stereo) and i usually turn on the sub before the stereo and it does the loud thump

It's sure not helping them, but whether it does any actual damage would depend on how loud it is.

damn.. i coulda sworn i clicked "email notification". I had no idea i had 4 replies. Well anyway..

i dont get a loud thump at all? well i do... but its not very loud. It sounds like a mere "puh" when i hit the switch. Usually im already playin the music then i hit the switch, so i guess i wouldnt notice the "puh" anyway.. ill try with no music playin next time!

anything else from anybody? jim?

when i had my Topaz, and was running switches, i just didnt bother going to the fuse panel, just run the remote wire through the switch and you wont have any problems...

i was running a pioneer amp on 2 6x9's, and a premier amp runnin 2 12's, ran 2 remote switches for 2 years, didnt have any problems or nuttin, as a matter of fact, i sold all that equipment to my bro and he still uses it to the day...

i ran the remote out of the deck, it plugs into one end of the switch, the best example i could use, for my switches, my mom has some bazooka tubes in her dodge spirit, and i just used those, so they said SS on them, but anyways, then one plugs in to the switch, then the other spot on the switch, i ran another blue wire from the switch back to the amp, if you run more than 2 amps, you gotta splice, otherwise your switch will turn them both off...
