cassette player dead

My stock cassette player is junk, just all around needs replaced. My two options are go aftermarket or go with JohnFromRI's AUX tape decks. I'm inclined to go with him to support a fellow 3rd genner and because he seems like a good dude. However it would be nice to have an aftermarket deck. The only problem is my car lives outside, and people still break in and steal aftermarket car stereos here (although strangely enough nobody has ever broken in and touched my cassette deck!!!!).
So here's my question: has anybody hidden their aftermarket deck anywhere out of view? Or is it possible to conceal one behind the front plate of a stock deck (if that makes sense)? I know I can put a 4th gen CD player in there, but I want something with USB or AUX capability. I don't know, I'm kinda just thinking out loud. Maybe JohnFromRI's decks are the only option, and I'd be happy to give him my business, I just think the other option would be kinda cool.

You can't use a 4th gen? I bought a 1990s Pontiac CD player for my GTA. I ended up not using it and returning it because it wasn't compatible with the steering wheel controls. But it did work and I could have used it with just a little filing on the mounting brackets (just a bit wide). Not sure what vehicle it came out of, but from memory it sure seemed just like the 4th gen CD player that I had in a '98 TA.
