Just Put in My New 4x6 Kenwoods KFC-4675C Easy Then SUPRISE :-( !!!

Its Hot in the morning in Florida I live in an apt no covered parking. I have to working fast to install the Front speakers on my 86 TA SUPER EASY! Then I Jump to that back seat that's going to be easier I remember My old 1985 TA unscrew unplug, pop in replacement 6x9s and done! I had the connectors for direct plug play just like the fronts. Then I pull off the back cover and this sh*t is here! WTH You guys ever see this before??? Now I have 4 speak connector instead of two. Ruin my plug in play! Not sure what to do with two choices on each side now. Any input thanks! I know I can just hard wire but is the double speaker splitting my watts? Should I to use one + & - or combine 2 set of the + & - to one 6x9 not sure? Oh ya I cant use these brackets for my 6x9 now.

AND This one Missing a speaker

You have found remains of optional "performance sound" There was a small seperate amp to drive the 4.5" (?) woofers.I say remove those and install 6x9s- mounting plates for the 6x9s can be made from masonite, thin wood, thick plastic...

Sorry, kid, but as soon as I read that you jumped into the back, and..., I knew right away what was coming, and I started to laugh a little bit lol. Someone else was recently talking about 6x9s in the back of his TA, and I suggested looking first, for that very reason.

Performance Sound, a Pontiac option through 1988: 4x6 on top, 5-1/4" subwoofer below. The GAIN switch on your dash (assuming it's still there) controls a small amp behind the dash that powers the subs.

5-1/4" subs are not easy to find, but you can probably install anything in those sizes if you want to keep the boxes, depth permitting, but it sounds like you've already decided what you're going to do.

I have decided to stay with the Performance Sound System.
Total of 4 Kenwood KFC-4675C Front speaker and back speaker 4x6 Imp 4 ohms
UPDATE: Front speaker 2 4x6 KICK PANEL OER SPEAKER; 8-10 OHMS; EACH; AUTHENTIC REPRODUCTION # 16033662
Back Seat 2 4x6 Kenwood KFC-4675C speaker 4 ohms with Woofer back Seat
Dayton Audio DC130AS-8 5-1/4 Dayton Audio DC130AS-8 5-1/4" Classic Shielded Woofer
4 ohms

I believe my 38 year old Amp is still working but the light doesn't come on the gain switch.

If for any reason your new subs don't work out you can always re-cone the original subs, their are a few threads on it here on TGO
Good Luck with your project.

Hey Mantaguy!
Super Knowlege bank. Do you know what Ohms that front and rear 4x6? I put in 4x6 (4 ohms) Kenwood's their nice but kind of loud...
Not all speakers are hooked up 5.25 are MIA on order, but I'd like to make sure on the 4x6s ohms are correct since they're 4 on the performance system 2 front 2 back with two 5.25 woofers. If not, no worries I'll keep digging. 16033662 that were in my front I found reproductions speaker of 8-10 ohms. Now I'm wondering where the back 4 x 6 (4 or 10 ohms too)

Thank you for the re-cone info too will look into it these especially if these don't cut the mustard!
I'm Afraid my Kenwood might not in the end.

Hey Mantaguy,

Project Complete You were correct I replace the Front Speakers with the ORE 4x6 10 ohms. They sounded great. Unlike the rest of the back speakers Kenwood aftermarket 4x6 4 ohms and 5.25 aftermarket woofers sound ok. The sound system complete gets a grade of C or C- I'm disappointed with it. My 2007 Buick Lucerne That only has two 6x9 in the backseat working sound better. I saved my rear 4x6 OE Speaker and Have One 5.25 OE woofer. I could not find the Re-cone post. I'm getting those speakers re-coned. Had you not mentioned that as a possibility I would have chucked them in the trash so Thank you.

Good News the 38-year-old AMP Gain Button works! "Light bulb burn out " but it KICKED in the 5.25 woofer when pressed down.

Thank you!
If you know anyone that recones speakers let me know.
