I'm trying to locate one of the old Delco radios that would have been available for my 1984 Camaro. The original radio gave up the ghost long ago and the replacement head unit got stolen. I'm really not interested in shelling out the money for a nice one at the moment. Too many other things on the car that are requiring attention (restoration in progress). I know the original radio had an orange (not green) digital clock display and preset buttons that kinda stuck out. I'd like to find one that's in good working condition and has a faceplate in excellent condition. Cassette player preferable but not absolutely necessary. Haven't had any luck on Ebay. Let me know if you have a nice one you'd be willing to part with! Thanks!

Wow KJ...thanks for going to all that trouble! I didn't intend for anyone to spend that much time on Ebay. Actually, I think I had seen all of those before...but unfortunately they aren't what I'm looking for. Those are all the later Delco design with the green LED display. The one I'm looking for has an orange LED...and the preset buttons stuck out further...they could be broken off relatively easy. Will probably have to go to a junk yard but I was hoping someone around here would have a nice one collecting dust in their garage. Anyway, thanks again for your help!

Deadtrend: I think the swivel radio was only offered on the Berlinetta model. I've seen a couple of them in person...pretty cool! Here's a link to one that's listed on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...859390&r=0&t=0

"I see ya baby, shakin' that a$$, shakin' that a$$, shakin' that a$$"!!!!

LMAO

No butt seriously,

I have one like this......

but it's got gold writing on it. And no EQ.

If someone can tell me which two prongs on the back are the power and ground, then I can hook it up fer ya and see what color the LED is.

You can have it. Yu just pay for shippin'.

Hey RPO_1A3, I have the original radio out of my 82 Z28 still wokring fine...I took it out 2 years ago when i got my pioneer deck...

It has a cassette player and to set the stations for the radio, you had to pull out the preset button, then push it back it. Im not sure if it is orange led, but i will check when i go home this weekend.

Well I have 2 and one of them is identical to the one in the pic I posted. If I shine my Mag light on the one like the one above, it reflects that blue LED.

The other one doesn't. It just has a haze to it. No blue reflection.

I'll look for a schematic of the plugs and see if I can power it up. I don't have the wires or otherwise I could do it easily.

TTYL,
AJ

Thanks, AJ_92RS and 82CamaroZ28!!! I don't absolutely *HAVE* to find one with the orange display, but it would be cool to have one of the units that were available that model year (1984). If I weren't restoring the car, I definitely wouldn't care...but I'm trying to keep the car looking as original as possible. If neither of you end up having one with the orange, I'll take you up on your offer AJ. Things don't come much cheaper than free! Keep me posted and many thanks for your help!

Two head units for free? Gosh...I don't know what to say! That is VERY generous of you! I don't want to be selfish, though. After all, I would only be able to install and use one of them. What does the faceplate on other radio look like (the one with the "hazy" display)?

If nothing else, I guess I could always take both and give the one I'm not using to someone who really needs it. Let me know about that second one. Thanks!

Thanks for the diagram John, but it's not quite what I need. You gave me something to use "as if" I was gonna take the radio apart.

All I really need is to know is which prongs on this thing to use for Power and Ground.

And don't worry about the radios. I've had them layin' around for about 5-8 yrs. now. Do ya think I'm really gonna miss 'em?

And the face of the one with the Gold lettering is in great shape. And when I said "haze" I meant it has no reflective qualities. The "haze" is more like a "lack of glare" than anything.

Thanks Kj, but that's the one I already downloaded that jobryan26 posted. It tells me a lot if I was makin' a radio, but it doesn't tell me which prongs on the back of the radio are the Power and Ground.

Anyway, with low light in my garage tonight, I shined the MAG Light in there again, and had my friend confirm that the LED in there is an amber color, not blue. We're about 99.9% sure of it.

So email me RPO_1A3 with yer address and I'll figure up the cost of shipping. Send me money, and it's on it's way.

Either way, you'll need to connect both the yellow and orange pins to +12v and of course the black pin to ground.

Well thank you for the response.

Unfortunetly your a day late and a dollar short.

Not your fault at all, but I just shipped it to him about 2 hrs ago. It's his problem now.

But I do appreciate the response. The timing just didn't work out. Plus I probably would have ruined it if I tried anything anyway. :sillylol:

Allan, thanks a million for posting the diagrams. That will come in very handy since my car doesn't have the wiring harness(es) anymore. I'll have to buy a new one to hook up to the back of the new-to-me radio and now I'll know which wires go where.

A *REALLY* big thanks to AJ_92RS for offering the radio. You guys have all been awesome! I'm very proud to be a new 3rd gen owner and a part of this group.

Check out the guys at http://www.installer.com I ordered some adapters from them (one for the antenna and one for the harness) to put a newer Delco radio into the older car harness and they were pretty cheap, shipping was cheap and quick. They seem to know they're ****, although their website isn't as "professional" as others, they don't rape you on shipping charges of $8.95 on a $15 part! Tell me what you need to do and I can tell you what part numbers to get. Since I recently did this, it's still fresh in my mind
