My new toy :) Got the TV

Hey guys, just got my new in-dash LCD screen in the car. It has a built in AM/FM tuner, 7in motorized screen, remote, all the goodies, Naigation input, 3 AV inputs, front, rear, and sub RCA's, and a cd changer controller. Bought a DVD player for it also to play my CD's and my movies

That's pretty snazzy

I didn't even know that MA Audio made an indash LCD. How's it working out so far? Looks good in the pic so you must be happy.

By the way, is the silver trim around the heater controls/head unit and center console your own addition?

MA just came out with it, it's a brand new addition to there line up. This shop here in town that sells there stuff didn't even know about it, lol. I asked if they had the new MA in-dash LCD with tuner, they were like "what, I don't know abything about one" lol. I'm gonna go up there and show them what it is. It's list price is $1990 but you can find it online for anywhere from 900-1200. I usually see in the 1000-1100 range. I love it.

Interesting....

That's actually one of the nicer looking units I've seen. Unfortunately I won't be able to see one in person unless it's in somebody's car 'cause no one around here stocks MA.

How did you hear about it originally and where did you end up buying it from?

I just so happened to be cruisin by my friends stereo shop, and decided to go in. I saw it sitting in the back of the shop, and it was a model they just released, not alot of places (even ones who stock MA) know about it yet. this place down the road I go to alot didn't know about it yet. You could find it online at certain places for sale. Thanks, I thought it looked good too, I like Alpine but there black units and only a 6.5in screen made me not want one, and only having one pre-out sucked too. I love the features on this one. Thanks alot guys.

As soon as somebody builds what I want, I'm going to buy it. I want an in-dash DVD player with a 7" screen, tuner, 5.1/DTS output and... here's the kicker.... a display when the screen is closed. All I've seen is the cheap assed crap like Pyle & Emerson that offers something like that. As soon as a major manufacturer jumps on board and offers one that has adequate sound quality, I'll be all over it.

But, that MA Audio piece is nice just the same.

The only thing I don't have that you want is a built in DVD and the Display when the panel is closed. Clarion makes a 6.8in screen with a display when closed. The whole unit is a TV where as mine is just part of it is. But the only thing the clario9n doesn't have is the built in DVD.

Clarion makes another piece that's real slick. DVD, built in decoder with the analog and digital outputs. I've got a 7" screen so I could get along real nice with that piece.... except that there's no damned tuner.

Jim: so you're going for the 5.1 digital surround? Does this mean that you'll be putting in some rear speakers soon?

Just giving you a hard time But that does mean giving up the front speaker soundstage that you use, doesn't it? Or would you hook it up so that the rear speakers will only be used with the TV?

well, jim, if you've already got a monitor, check the newer crutchfield. they've got a panasonic model on a giat price cut. it is their 5.1, dvd-audio, dvd-video headunit. has built in decoding and swivel out center channel speaker. i think it went from $1500 to around $600-700. there is not monitor, but it allows for a monitor to be hooked up to it

I've seen the Panasonic, but I don't like it. The sound quality isn't up to my standards, plus that swing out center channel is ***-awful ugly.

TrueBlue, when you play 2-channel audio, all of the surround speakers stay silent. They only play in 5.1 or some analog type of surround (like Dolby Pro Logic). So when I play music, I'll have good old 2-channel audio.

That's interesting. I didn't know that they accomodate for that.
But I suppose it would be unwise to compromise people's setup while designing a surround sound unit.

ANY multichannel setup does that. If you have 6 discrete channels and only 2 channels of data... you're only going to get 2 channels of sound. There really isn't any accomodation per-se.

You can run the surround speakers off just the two channels and not have them play during regular music? How does that work? Are the surround speakers connected through the DVD player itself? Either I'm not following you or I'm just unfamiliar with the set-up.
