HELP!! Maaco killed my system!!
HELP!! Maaco killed my system!!
Ok here goes...after having my car a month (don't ask) I finally get it back from Maaco, put the faceplate back into my headunit, it powers up as does my EQ, but no sound at all....i don't think they actually touched the system but i don't understand what is wrong. Here are the specifics...Pioneer headunit (older tapedeck) getting power...Sony MKII 9 channel EQ (powers up) TWO AMPS... my four channel's power light comes on (Altec Lansing) but my bridged two-channel amp (US Acoustics) power and protection leds are not lit. The system is getting power and is properly grounded but my speakers don't seem to be getting any signal...all the connections seem tight and correct. Any ideas on where the problem lies...Please help guys. not having a radio sucks...

well.. I know it sounds redundant but check over ALL the connections. The RCA's(out of head and EQ),EQ to Cross over, Cross over to amp, the amp to speaker. Something has to be wrong there.
You said that only 1 of your amps is powering up?... Find out it's not and you probly find your problem with no sound.

Well, if they had the car for a whole month, I can tell you for sure that one of two things happened:
1. They disconnected the battery at some point.
2. They didn't disconnect the battery, it went dead, and they jump-started the car or used a battery charger.
I'm not sure why, but sometimes people blow radio and amp fuses when they're jump starting cars...it's never happened to me but I've seen it many times. Or, if they did disconnect the battery, maybe they bumped around into the amp wires under the hood and set them loose.
In either case, check the wiring connections, and fuse, under the hood.
You'll probably end up needing a test light or meter, to check everything out the right way.

If your head unit, EQ and one amp comes on then the problem is probably not the fuses.
First make sure your volume/fader output is set good, then check your RCA connections. Does your EQ have a visual output meter? Last, check the connections to the speakers.
Check the fuses and wiring on the amp that is not working. For what its worth, I had a similar problem that turned out being a shorted blue wire running to my amps....caused my whole system to go silent. Hope this helps

hey guys
thanks for the responses, it turns out that the problem was that the power wire was disconnected from the battery. I just hooked it back up and was good to go. I should've looked for that first.
