New cd stereo or orignal cd stereo???

I just bought a 92 z28 with a jenson cd player and a boom box and two amps (cheap ones).

I have always beleive in keeping the camaro original so I purchased on ebay a factory 92 camaro cd stereo, never used (been sitting at a chevy dealership warehouse)

The question I have is how many people have kept the camaro stereo system original? I know most have upgraded. Does this deter from originality at car shows???

I like to have a nice system but I also believe in keeping the camaro original!!!

I like to hear who still has the original system and why.

Thanks!!!

Manny

92 z28 , 350, with 46k miles, pw, pl,power mirrors, power drivers seat, rear defroster, 4 wheels discs, limited slip performance axle, leather and the Heritage package.

Most people do choose to downgrade to an aftermarket radio in order to play CDs.

Glad to see you chose not to.

Is Audiovox still making "Looks like OE" Car sound systems? I worked for them briefly, in the early 70's. Quite a facility, in Hauppage Long Island, New York!

Re: New cd stereo or orignal cd stereo???

I went a little different way with my 88. Put in a GM stereo from a 97 S10 truck, easy install, superb radio with CD player. Put an amp that accepts high level inputs in the rear storage compartment, built a box that fits down in the rear 'well' with a dual voice coil 10 woofer, cut a panel to fit over the box and snug around the upper part of the well, couple ports for the sound, carpeted the cover. Won't win any contests but hard to spot anything that doesn't look stock and does kick some butt with sound when needed.

We'll come back and look at this "In the Year 2525," What kind of stereo will we have in our fusion powered SST aero coupe. And that's one awesome RS convertible too.

Re: New cd stereo or orignal cd stereo???

Back on 18 year old topic,I would love to keep the stock look of the radio... however mine is just a cassette, and it's dying, so new radio time it is. Even if it wasn't broke, the audio quality is unacceptable. I'm too much of an audiophile to accept cheap delco trash!

Besides, you can get some pretty nice (and good looking) headunits if you look hard enough.
