In addition to a set of 6x9's in my sail panels, I also have two 6x9's in boxes on the hump behind my back seats. The amp is set to low pass all 4 6x9's at about 200 hertz. I want to get some better bass reflex out of that part of my system, so where would the boxed 6x9's be best located to produce better bass? The well, the hump, or somewhere else? TIA.

 

Well, if you're really set on using more 6x9's, you'll get the best bass with them being in the well. But I would seriously recommend forgetting about 6x9's and get some subs.

I would if I could, but I can't so I wont! I'm in a kinda money-saving situation right now, so I'm making do with what I have on hand right now. Here's another question for you guys: I have another amp kicking around, would I notice an improvement in sound by hooking only 1 pair of 6x9's up to each amp, instead of having all 4 driven by just the one amp?

 

Putting 6x9s in a box doesn't usually give you much bass. 6x9s are built as an "infinite baffle" design, so stuffing them in a little tiny box really does a number on their bass output.

you will get the best bass response with two 6x9s mounted in the plastic cargo pit cover. I did this with $79 Kenwood 3-ways and it sounded nice,even better with a 75wx2 alpine amp. the trick is to use the 6x9s with the most "natural" raw bass sound. better brands or higher peak power speakers won't neccesarily provide any better bass. of course 6x9s aren't the top choice for bass,it is still possible to have a decent "all around" system with just 6x9s. once the speakers are using the trunk as a resonant cavity and reflecting off the hatch,you'll have people asking what kind of subs you have!

 

I used to have a board in the back, it had two 5x7's and a 15 inch grandpa in the center. I wrecked the 15, so out came the board. Now I'll just cut the 5x7 holes a bit larger for the 6x9's and I'm good to go!

One question, though: Should I plug up the 15 inch hole, or leave it open? TIA

 

leave the old 15" in there (w/no power ofcourse) for dampening standing waves....
