Crap. Got off the phone with a friend who is the head engineering guy at a amp manufacturer at your neck of the woods. They buy the competition's product, take it apart to see what they are doing and then test them.

From what he told me about the bottom of the line Lightning, its a cheap single sided board, sloppy construction, silicon everywhere inside. Basically, when I asked him what was the nastiest amp he had played with lately, he said "lightning audio". So I would avoid them.

What are you looking for in an amp?

Juan

I can't really say either way myself, as I have not heard them much, and I have heard mixed feelings about them. Also, I am not saying the guy you talked to is wrong or anything, but you may want to view his response as somewhat biased. After all, he works for the competition. Also, he was looking at one of the bottom Lightning's...their other stuff may be better.

Well, I trust the guy, and he was nice enough to share with me what he thought was a good amp as well. I knew him before he worked at the company.

Not only did he tell me it was crap, but he told me why.

Since he didn't have a chance to see the other stuff, it is probably different (might even have more of its Rockford Fosgate DNA since they are owned by the same company).

Oh, I forgot, he mentioned that the add on fan kit is pretty useless as well. Turns out you can buy a fan to put on top, but they didn't bother putting a way to vent the hot air out of the amp. So no way for fresh air to come in. Not the smartest design.

Actually im using on of their amps.. powering a 12" sub... along with the cooling fan. They look sweet, sound is a lot better then my kenwood and no problems with overheating.. the price was right, and their made my rockford fosgate.
