I just got a Camaro and I want to know what brand of stereo to use.

Hi.

I got a Camaro RS. I'm going to put a stereo in it. I like JVC and Kenwood. That's what I have in my room. They're my favorite brands.

Who makes better car stereos? Kenwood or JVC? My stereo in my room is a Kenwood and it's loud. I gotta a JVC DVD player to, and it's good.

I want to put some subs in my car to. Do I need an amp? And can I buy them in a box? I don't know how to make a box like you guys do. So can I buy Kenwood subs and a box for them from Crutchfield? Will it fit in my car?

I think I want Kenwood subs. What size will fit? If i get a box for 2 12s will it fit in my car? I saw one on crutchfields website for our cars. q-logic makes it. it's cool.

And I like Kenwood and JVC. Who makes better amps? I would think Kenwood would. Don't you? JVC makes better home stuff don't they?

My friend has a Sony amp and 2 10s. I like his, but I don't want Sony because he has them already. I think he has a 150 watt amp? I'll have to ask him. He
said that he don't know a lot about my kind of car. He has a little trunk in a 96 Avenger. I've seen pictures of stuff on here for a while of your guys stuff. But nobody talks about Kenwood much. I don't want JL stuff cause that's what my sister has, and she's a snob.

get a JBL amp. the 300.1,600.1 or 1200.1 those are some kick *** amps. I was gonna get one till I decided on a rockford instead. but if you are stuck on kenwood or JVC I'd say kenwood for an amp. look at those JBL's though. also 2 12's will fit no problem. and have you ever listened to infinity subs? they are good for quality/price, I have one and i like it way better than my friends kenwood. I don't car for kenwood subs much.

Well I think I wanna keep it all one brand. Because Kenwood makes everything. And it would bee cool to have it all one name. Like all Chevrolet stuff. Or always drinkin Bud. :-)

I like the blue speakers that kenwood has. They would match my car. It's blue to, well more purple. Can I put in door speakers like my mom's car? She has a 98 Monte Carlo and I like her door speakers. They sound good. She has the factory stereo.

And I like Kenwood. I've had there stuff since I was like 14. Their cheap, but not cheap, ya know?

Yea. I have seen them. They look neat. But I'm afraid I'd break one on my side. That I would put my foot through it or something like that.

Are the grills really strong? And how does that sound down by your feet? I got big feet so I don't want them to block the sound. I wear size 13. My mom calls me Lurch. :-) I'm only 6 ft. 2. But she thinks I'm going to be 7 ft. tall since my feet are so big.

Crutchfield has them for about 2 hundred dollars. Is that a good price? I have seen that one guy say that he is not ging to make them for a while. Are his good?

I have a Kenwood 600 amp and 2 10" JL subs and they hit very hard. They shake everything when its not even tuned up loud. I love it. I think i saw 2 10" JL with Powerwedge box for around $300 at my local shop. Go for JL they are very good and worth the money.

There are a couple articles in the tech-article section of this website that you should read. It will help give you an introduction to basic car audio.

Except for the digifine radios, the JVC stuff is crap. The Kenwood stuff isn't bad, but it certainly isn't "high end" stuff.

Neither of them have a single coax speaker that sounds better than a telephone speaker. Some of the Kenwood subs sound decent, but not as good as other subs in the same price range.

I really wouldn't pigeon-hole yourself into sticking with one brand. There's no good reason to do it, and it limits your options severely. Most quality equipment comes from companies that specialize in one area. Kicker makes great amps and subs. Same with rockford. Boston Acoustics makes great speakers. Alpine and Eclipse make great decks.

Start spending some time at local car audio shop listening to their stuff and asking questions. Pretty soon you'll start to develop a better idea of what will work best for you, as well as being able to decide what speakers sound best to you.

I'm not trying to argue with you, I know you know alot more about what your tlaking about. but I've had really good luck with my kenwood speakers. they sound very clear and I've been very satisfied. like I said I'm not trying to pick a fight or nothing, but they have worked for me.

I have a JVC EL Kameleon. I love it.

Over the years I've had (as far as Head Units) JVC, Alpine, Denon, Audiovox, Jensen, Pioneer, and even used the factory head unit. But I've never used Kenwood. I once had a Kenwood EQ with a parametric control on it, but that's the only Kenwood thing I've ever used in any car.

I have all Kenwood home stuff, but never really experimented with their car stuff. All I can say is (like Jim said) that it's not really what brand you buy as much as it is what level of quality you buy. Personally I'd stay away from Jensen, Audiovox, and brands like that for a HU. I only use that stuff in my wife's van so she can listen to her ****-tree music!!!

Anyway...(sorry. started to babble) I'd think that Kenwood stuff is OK. Back in like 1989 or 1990 I heard a guy come through the gas station I worked at. He had ALL Kenwood stuff. And it sounded awesome. But he also bought all their best stuff.

I would agree to the general consesnsus here that you shouldnt limit yooursefl to brands, rather explore your options and take some advice. I've had a JVC digifine deck for almost a year now and I like it a lot, but I may look into alpine for my next deck just due to the praise everyone gives them. that doesnt mean i'll def buy one, just check it out. and you should decide what you want from your system, loudness or sound quality, because that will determine what you need to buy. also figure out how much you want to spend. as for kenwood speakers, like others have said: they might fit you just fine, you might have no problem with them etc. but it would be your best bet to look around a bit, see your options. you can probably by a better name for just a little more money. for example, a Kenwood 12" off of crutchfield is about $130, x2 is $260. For another $40 you can get a single Boston Acoustics 12" which i'm sure is a better sound quality sub, and will probably hit harder w/ a good amp. dont be afraid to look into things and ask questions!

This is a perfect example of why it's important to listen to the speakers yourself. When it comes to electronics, you can do pretty well evaluating the product objectively, but with a speaker it's purely subjective. You need to go listen to a ton of stuff and start deciding what stuff sounds good to you and what stuff doesn't.

Yeah you'd be better off checking around on different stuff before just going with one brand. When I saw the Sony Xplod line in Circuit City I was like SWEET! The red and black... I wanted 2 12" subs... a red neon... the 6x9's... the 4x6's... a CD Player... then I wanted the red and black seats and my car red with black stripes... I got the 6x9's 2 days after I got my car... the cd player... a week after I got my car.. that was last May... the speakers SUCKED... they sounded alright in the store... but when they got hooked up to my cd player... they sucked... they crapped out on me after about 2 months.. then the cd player is skipping now and the display screen is messing up... I think this time I'm actually going to LOOK and LISTEN to the cd players before buying one. I suggest for speakers... go with Polk Audio component set. I have the EX2560... got open box for only $149. They are in DJSexay's kick panels... and I wear a size 13... I'm 6'1"... and I'm a soccer player... all high school season I'd get in my car with dirt and mud on me and would kick the kick panels but since the tweeters have a hard plastic grill and the kicks are made of fiberglass then nothing ever happened... my kicks are covered in tweed so I just brush the dirt off and they're clean. They sound great down by your feet. I have no rear speakers and no speakers in the dash. All my friends love my system. As far as subs... I suggest Rockford Fosgate. I have 1 12" RF Punch HE running off a RF Punch 100.2 amp. It hits HARD. I was behind some friends that were riding the bus the other day. They had the windows up and they said they could hear it good. I saw the people in the front seat of the bus stand up and look back at me.

Sorry 2 ramble... but check around at places before you go buying because of name brand or the look of the items. Burn a cd with different songs u like... like anywhere from rap...hard rock... light rock... country... whatever you listen to. And listen to it at the shop.

just thought i'd throw this in...

i used to be a kenwood freak, too. oh, and lets not forget crutchfield. my friends and i grew up on that catalog, as it contains a ton of useful info. we used that to see what was the latest and greatest, although we rarely bought anything from them because their prices were a bit steep.

my first system consisted of everything kenwood: reciever and interior speakers (researched through crutchfield, bought elsewhere). sound familiar? i wanted everything the same. it was okay at the time, then i grew into a bit of an enthusiast, and started to notice quality of sound.

my present system still has the 6X9's (4-way) and still sound sweeeeeeeet... although, i would not recommend their 4x6's as they were ok, but didnt last, nor did they put out pristine highs. i ended up swapping the deck, front speakers, and adding in amps & subs, as well as the q-logic box for 2 12's.

i am very happy with my system and i'd like to add; pay close attention to you choice in sail panel speakers. with the crappy location and angle from our fronts, you want to rely on the sail panels for you crisp sounds, but still want to balance in the fronts. (or if you've got the money and time, invest in some KP's)

in conclusion, i would have to agree with everybody and shop around. do your research and if possible listen to them first.

just my $.02

Why limit yourself???

I had a pair of KENWOOD 6x9s,75w paper cone 3 ways,I liked them because they sounded good and didn't cost much.....infact,I was disapointed when I bought my Infinity 6x9s and they didn't have the mid-bass response that the kenwoods had. so I'm not saying Kenwood is a junk brand......I like their speakers.

have you ever looked inside one of Kenwoods amazing 600 watt amps??....I did and I was disapointed to see that the biggest component which was a capacitor wasn't even as big as a transistor in my ALPINE V12 75watt X 2 (awsome amp) I don't expect anyone to know what capacitors and transistors are,but the bottom line is that Kenwood is a bit fraudulent in their power claims! ALPINE advertises their RMS power as well as JL AUDIO, I also had a JL 500 watt monoblock once....outstanding amp........Kenwood wouldn't hold a candle to it!

their are a million better head units than Kenwood, yea thier ok,but I'd get a JVC before a Kenwood,Alpine is best quality and bang for you buck, also offers incredible no BS features like standard 4v pre out,sub cross over, three stages of BBE I'm sure the newest ones are even more amazing

don't get me started home brands, my roommate has a kenwood system....wich is ok,but I'd get an OHNKYO or TECHNICS or HARMON KARDON reciever before a Kenwood, their 10" sub sucks....no cross over for the satalite speakers!! Sony makes the best 5-disc changers,Audio Source makes an insane self powered sub and DCM makes some decent speakers.......lesson learned : don't limit yourself to one brand, mix and match! the only things not interchangable are the headunits and 6-disc changers....unless it's FM wirless...
