Can someone Please explain how the distibution block stuff works?

I have a 4 guage wire with and 80 amp fuse.
I am going to run it to a 4 way distrabution block, and then run 8 guage from there. Now right now I'm only hooking into a Cap, and then to a RF 800.4.

Now here's where I get confused. Int the Distrabution block there are 4 fuses.
1 10A
2 30A
1 50A

Now should I replace all the fuses with a certain size? What size? Same Size?

How much power will go through the block once it go's through the second fuse?
IE. Power goes through the 80 amp fuse travels to the distro block, goes through the 50 amp fuse, how much power is traveling to the amp?

I've been readin all I could, and still finding myself confused, so if someone could please help, I would be greatful...

thanks

Well the distribution block will never see more than 80A but its ok to put fuses with ratings that total more than 80A but not higher than what the electronic device on the other side of the fuse is rated for. Say that 50A is going to an amp that has a max rating of 40A, you should probably replace that 50A with a 40A since its really not doing you any good. Its basically a secondary measure if the fuse on the amp fails for some reason, you've got a backup (dist. block). Just think of fuses as funnels, the larger the funnel opening the more fluid you'll have flowing through it, the smaller the opening, less fluid. Then put an even smaller funnel below the first and it'll act as another bottleneck.

Kewl, so I need to check and see what the max power rating on the RF 800.4 is, right? Then from that make sure that all the fuses are right?

because if you have an amp suckin allot of juice, you will keep blowing a 40 IE. so then if you get a 50 and the amp is still safe and not blowing,
and vice versa.

heres mine.

i love it, 1 gauge in, 4 gauge out...

if ya need install stuff, go to

Yeah, basically. My system for instance, has two Kicker amps. One has two channels and a 30A fuse for each. The MOST that those two will draw is 60A of course so you should put no larger than a 60A fuse in that part of the dist block - you could even go slightly less to be safer.

Different sized fuses in the block could be to power different components. The block is a source of 12+ voltage and you could use it to power any number of accessories in your car, just make sure you use the right sized fuse for those electronics.

Do you need to ground the DBlock, and if so how do you do that?

No, the dist. block does not get grounded. Simply one wire in from the batt., 4 wires out to the desired components.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet is to make sure the fuse you put in will pop before the wire will. For instance, you wouldn't put a 100A fuse on an 8 Ga wire, as the wire would go first if the amp ever shorted, and that would leave one heck of a mess if it didn't burn everything in the process!
