I have a pioneer DEH-3400 (50wx4 mosfet power) and I am looking for the best sound I can get using the factory speaker location(rear).
I'm replacing a set of pioneer 6x9's and I'm willing to make a custom mounting plate, I'm just not willing to add extra speakers or an amp. I have a $200 budget to spend on this.

Here's my questions. What will give me better sound quality and bass, another set of 6x9's or a component system with 6&1/2"-6&3/4" woofers, tweeters, and crossover.

I've been checking out the component systems and they seem like a good idea, but I want to make sure I'm doing this right.

Also, if the components are better, what are some of your preferences in the $200 range?
I looked through a crutchfield catalog and I saw Infinity,mtx,jbl,polk,and rockford all had systems in my range.

Any help is Greatly appreciated

if you cant be convinced to go with a sub, and an amp, or cant afford it. Then i would go with the component set, I use infinity, i also have a friend who has Mb Quart (more expensive) but boston acoustics are really good too, try and find another site other than crutchfield, they have great information, but high prices!

 

First of all why are you spending $200 on your rear "fill" and I'm assuming that you're leaving your front stage where 90% of your music comes from stock? Your front speakers are where your music comes from you should never be able to tell that sound is comming from behind you. The reason subs are put in the back is becouse there is not much room up front and bass is non-directional, meaning you can not tell where it is comming from. I say spend that money on a set of DJ's kickpanels when he starts making them in April and put some good components in there and forget about rear speakers. Whatever speakers you choose to go with make sure you listen to them first, peoples opinions are just that, their opinions.

Of course if you do have a soild front stage this post was pointless
but it would have helped to mention it.

Yeah, I probably should have mentioned, the $200 budget is just what I want to spend on the rear. Whatever speakers I decide on back the I'll buy my 4x6's from the same company/series.

So whats the verdict? Do I want 6x9's or the components?

BTW, I just look at stuff in Cruthfield, and then go to a local shop and buy it.

 

6x9's sound good and are an easy fit, but components sound better.

 

Components definatly if you have the extra cash, but if you dont you wont notice much differance between the components and the 6x9s in the back. Becouse you should never be able to tell that the back speakers are there....your sound should come from the front. This is why I think that it would be more important to spend the majority of your money on the front stage.

Going with components in the back would be a waste. The other guys are right, they are to strong for the rear. Also, the main benefit of components would be lost, which is the imaging. Components are really only needed in the front of the car.

 

What's this about no Car Audio guys on this board, What about me, DJSexay, Firebretha. We all love car audio, check out my setup, lol(sill have another grand to spend, lol). If you want the best sound go with components for the rear. you can get or make a plate to mount the component set in the 6x9 location. If you only want to spend $200, check out ebay. You can get a JL VR component set, Kicker Resolution component set(GREAT), or an MB Quart Reference Series Component set for around $200 bucks. JL will give you ear piercing highs but the mid bass is lacking, the Resolutions will give a great mixture of both, and MB Quart, well, they have a great reputation for a reason, and the Reference series is pretty good for both side (mid bass and highs). If you don't want an amp on them, it's going to be hard to get the BEST sound out of them, but either of the ones I just mentioned will still give you a nice spectrum of sound. Focal is by far the best, but way out of the $200 range, lol. Oh, and the thing about losing the "imaging" if tehy are in the rear, that is only if the tweeter is not angle mounted and pointed towards you ears. If that theory was correct why would we have rear speakers, they would be pointless right? a rear component set will be far better than a 6x9 and if you mount the tweeter angled toward you ear, the imaging will be fine. Some 6x9's have swivel tweeters allowing you to point them toward you ears, but they still lack compared to a component set. Oh, and don't put 4x6's back up front. If your going to change them, invest in kickpanels and another matching component set (same as rear).
