Can the choke be removed from a Holley 4160?

The butterfly on my Holley 4160 is gone,
has been. So can I take the rest of the
choke off the side of the carb, to make
it look less clutterd, or does it have another funtion beside controlling the
butterfly?? Thanks for your help..

nope..no reason why not. Removing it even helps flow through the primaries a bit. Go for it.

There is a hole you have to plug if you remove the choke. Its kind of hard to explain where, but I'll try. Where the choke mounts, there are, I think 3 holes besides the mounting holes. I believe it is the hole that is furthest rearward. Don't quote me on this. In fact, when I get home tonight, I will look on mine, and let you know which one if no one else gets it first.

He has a point..I complely forgot about that.

I vaugly remember having to do that the last time I cut a choke off. I think it was the rearmost hole that holds the choke housing onto the side of the carb. It creates a vacuum leak if there wasn;t a screw plugging it. You can check all of them when you have it off tho..

Okay here is how mine is set up:

0-mount
0 0-mount
0 0-plug this one
0 00
^
|-mount

I hope this helps a little. If I had my fathers camera, I would post a pic of it. Some of those holes do, of course, have a boss that they are drilled into. I have so many car mags coming in, I can't remember which one said it, but this is the only hole they said needed plugged.

Okay nevermind. I can see it didn't work. I will get a digital camera Thursday, and take a pic for you.

Sorry,

Well I couldn't find my dads camera. He is in Canada this week, so I won't see him until Saturday. The hole to plug is not the most rearward one. If you look at the side, right about the middle of the carb, you will see 3 holes that are in the general shape of a backwards "L". The one at the top of this "L" is the one to plug. If you look closely at it, it will not be threaded yet.

Why not just put the choke back on?
Ya don't have enough motor to need to remove the choke on a 750 holley (more air flow).
Better yet hook it up! Wait that would be too easy.

i put my finger on the hole's, I could
feel the suction from one of them.
