I think the main issue you are neglecting is "emissions". A vehicle that originally had TBI will not be legal with a carb - period, end of story. TPI is the only alternative to TBI in emissions-speak.
So many guys in non-emissions areas have ripped out their TBI that I would think you could get all you need cheap off the classifieds on this board. But, I'll have to admit I've never looked or tried. Also, the TBI forum has a lot of guys that have successfully negotiated the TBI hurdles.
You might want to be a little less "ummm" before you try to fix it. Not a very good state for driving or working, either.

Sorry to have offended, as I had no such intent. You don't have to hang around here very long to see people who overlook the little things, like emissions ("You mean my new 850 Holley carb isn't emissions-legal on a stock LO3?"). Your info includes "Phoenix, AZ", which I was under the impression had emissions inspection and testing. If that's not true for you, bully.
You didn't say anything about a 350 or Vortec heads in your original post, either.
Glad your questions have been answered. Again, no intent to flame or insult.

its cool long day at work...
that is what i am trying to get the vortec heads and intake are a long shot... i am going to rid the engine bay of all wires, except the needed i think around 5 wires... also using least amount of hoses as possible in phoenix we dont need heater, at least i dont...
oh yeah cheating emmisions is kind of easy... i know of alot of people that do it.. if your parents dont live in a county that requires emmisions.. thats the only clue i'll give
carb it is i am looking into buying a carter or edelbrock just because of ease to tune...i havent tuned a carb ever and dont want alot of hassle... might go on the 305 for a while until i get 350 rebuilt..
