i have a problem
i have a problem
alright here goes
when i decide to give my car hell, it seems to spit and sputter at around 4500 rpm for a second or two and then it will pick back up and start screaming down the road again. the weird part is that is doesnt do this everytime, id say its about half the time. i have a feeling that its a carb problem, being that this is the first engine ive built and i know jack about carb tuning. by the way its a edel 750 vs.
any suggestions would be appreciated
thanks

I had this problem a while back, traced it down to fuel starvation. I replaced the stock fuelpump and fuel regulator with a holley red and never had the problem since. This is on a carbed engine but if your running tbi or tpi it propably is fuel pressure related too..
Hope this helps,
Peter

hmmmm fuel starvation huh? My car is doing this also...only have 5psi fuel pressure BUT I can jack it up alittle. Or I could run the vaccum line to the mallory FPR. I have a 305 intake fuel pump which i dont want to change out just yet...its a PITA
TBI305Camaro:
How are you getting the fuel to the pump? Did you take out the stock pump in the tank? Before I got my problem fixed I had the holley red in the engine compartment for a lillte while, it still did the same thing but not as much. Also the fuel return line is thicker than the regular fuel line going to the tbi, if you havent already you could switch over to that one. Now my HR pump is where the fuel filter sat. Its been working perfectly for about a year now.

Your problem might in this case be too much fuel pressure. The TBI fuel pump puts out 13-15 psi pressure. If your feeding that directly to the carb it wont be able to keep the float level right. Do you also have a pressure regulator before the carb? If you do it might be time to get a new fuelpump....
