road demon tuning Q...
I recently ditched the edelbrock for a 625 road demon carb. I put it on, hooked it up, then fired it up. set fuel press. @ 5-6 psi, warmed it up and adjusted idle down around 550 to adjust a/f. I am not getting a whole lot of change in rpm. The screws are adjusted @ about 1-1.25 turns out when i do get a change in rpm's. I dont believe i have any vacuum leaks , idles solid as a rock , not eratic. oops all most forgot --I adjusted the float level prior to a/f---about 1/4 to 1/2 ways up on the sight plug.
took it for a ride and it just didnt seem to have that much get up and go???????? due to other problems oil related the engine is now out of the car, I am going to bore it and reassemble it(machinist swore those scratches on the cyl. walls wouldn't be a problem ) any ways I noticed the exhaust valves were pretty white? plugs were a little tan-white? I know this means lean---but can any one suggest how rich to go for a initial change before i put this back together and fire it up? change pri. and how much, and or sec. and how much and any other changes??????eng is in signature and carb is as it came out of box..

this is one misconception i see on the carb board more often than anywhere else
if you are seing distinct coloring on the plugs (like anything even approaching dark) chances are you are too rich. Gasoline these days doesnt leave much color on plugs. I have some WOT plug pulls that look like damn near new plugs to the untrained eye.

i have since done a little research on the road/speed demon and it says the road demon is good for a 350 with a cam under 220 duration @ .050. well my cam hass 230/236 @ .050 this seems to be the only thing i am out of there suggestion on.. any body with similiar setup have good luck with the road demon with a comp extreme 274 cam?

contacted barry grant tech rep today and here was there reply:
The problem you're going to run into is that the Road Demon series carburetors are calibrated to work on engines with a maximum of 220 Degrees duration @ .050". With your cam duration you should have gone with a 650 Speed Demon. Trying to use a Road Demon on this combination you're going to run into idle, and drivabilty problems.
so I am wondering do i try it or sell the 625 demon. and buy the 650 speed demon or a regular 750 v.s. holley for less money The 625 is brand new only been on the engine 2 days before i tore the engine apart for other issues---only has about 30 minutes of run time????????
