WOOT it runs!!!

Well I just got my 86 runnin and fixed... and DAMN it's fast!! WOOT!!!!

Anyway, I changed the plugs, and they were BLACK.. like fouled black.

Here's a little but of my setup:
350 .030 over
World Products Sportsman II heads 64cc
flat top pistons
Performer RPM intake
Edelbrock 750 carb
5 spd
3.23's (ugh I know.. not for long tho)

My question is, what should I start with to get the plugs to not get black? I assume it's running rich?

The engine is an older build, and this is the 2nd car it's been in. It runs GREAT!! It probably has about 5-6k miles on it. We replaced the Holley 750 carb that was on it with this edelbrock, because I could never get the holley to run right (later found out it was the power valve.. doh)

Anyway, I'm a good mechanic.. The car was origionally a 305TPI/auto, and I swaped the 350/5spd in it when the 305 gave up the ghost (after 175k miles, so I can't complain).

Basically what my rambling is saying is I can fix it, I just don't know a lot about TUNING.. I can wrench with the best of them, but when it comes to the details, I'm kinda lost..

so.. yeah.. help?

Thanks!!

If it were a Holley, I'd say, Change the jets. Edelbrock, I don't know, but I bet the manual discusses it.

Evil is right. My Street avenger is not a good carb for making big HP. It's fine if you want to cruise, but.....................

I love my edelbrock carbs, but you would probably benefit from a mechanical secondary with your five speed. However, edels are good carbs, and very easy to tune. Check out this link:

breaks it down good, and will amaze you with how easy it is.

What I'll probably do is replace it with a Holley 650 DP for now, and when I get some heads, I'll go to a 750 Proform main body.

Why? The 650 DP would be just right for that engine IMO.

Because the cam and heads I'm putting in the motor will really need a 750. Heads will be flowing 290-300 CFM, cam 600 lift and 280+ dur.
