new parts! for new engine! woot!

A while back you guys were helping me figure out what I needed to do to my 86 Trans Am. It wasn't real mechanically sound.

Anyways I'm getting a brand spankin new 350. It has a new q-jet.

To go with the new engine I'm getting any day now... slp headers with matching slp y-pipe, connected to a flowmater series II cat-back.

What kinda power am I gonna get out of the motor with the new stuff?

The power you get out of a 350 is directly dependant upon the heads and cam installed on/in said 350.

"New" 350? New to you, or really "new"?

Okay. Now:

Heads? (casting #'s would be great)

Cam specs?

Or, where is this engine coming from? What do they "call" it?

As long as it isnt one of the commercial vehicle replacement motor 260hp 350's you will probably be ok. Where did you get it?

I'll have to check, but I'm betting that it is one of those commercial replacement motors. what do you mean by "ok"?

are those motors crap?

Remember your aunt shirleys old van? Everyone has one in thier family. Thats basically what it is. The come with horrible 76cc heads, crappy dished pistons, horribly pathetic camshafts, and an all cast bottom end. The cast bottom end isnt so bad, and you could replace the heads with something a little better for flow and compression, and then change the cam. You would be a lot better off with the right engine in the first place, though, instead of buying one and then rebuilding it.

Dont worry, its not as bad as they make it sound. It'll be a nice step up from a sick 305 no matter what it is.

The new q-jet part doesn't fit any crate motor description of which I'm aware.

How'd that get in the mix?

the q-jet was on the old motor. the old motor was suposed to be a 350 but they pulled it out and apparently it was a 305. I'm not surprised, that motor felt pretty sluggish. Only problem is that now its gonna be $500 dollars more for the 350 as opposed to putting in a new 305. (this has to do with core charge, I'm not going from a 350 to a 350)

I was debating it and decided to go with the 350. Its gonna be a rebuilt 350. (still has warranty tho) I might sell the car eventually and nobody wants to buy a trans am with a 305 (I won't be upgrading the motor a tone).

because of this complication I still don't know any parts numbers yet (along with cam, heads, etc) but I should know tomarrow

I might also pic up a set of Subframe Connectors. a guy on third gen is selling them. they are made by CGN and they are bolt in/weld in. anybody know anything bout CGN?
