Holley Fitment problem

I finally got myself a Holley 700 DP mech secondary, and I am having issues w/fit. It is a 4150 and it has center hum bowls. the stock Dual snorkle air cleaner will not fit onto the carb; the bowl ends (really the float level adjusters) hit the under side of the air cleaner housing before it get's within 1 CM of resitn down on the flange. If I switch to side hung, will that work?

Yeah that will work or you can go open element air cleaner.Another option is a holley 6210 spreadbore carb, that is my solution and it is a DP.You can pick one up on ebay for about 50 bucks if you keep an eye out............

Go to just about any parts store, and ask for a Mr. Gasket air cleaner spacer. It will look like a 1" tall black plastic ring. It will jack up the air cleaner about 1", so it should fit fine.

I just went with an open element when I got my Holley though, but I really wanna use my dual snorkel again.

Depending on the intake manifold and the hood, you might still encounter clearance issues.with a stock hood and any manifold taller than a low rise it would be touch and go with any spacer..............

Not really. I have a pretty tall intake and a Holley 4bbl. I have lots of room.

That's what I was aftraid of when I read about the spacer. I'll get some Play-Doh or clay today and see what I have for clearance at this point. I'm running performer RPM and a L69 Dual snorkle air cleaner. Thanks for the input guys.

Ditto here too! My dual snorkle air cleaner has been sitting on a shelf for 9 months!! I'd much rather use it than any open element type cleaner, but no way it'll fit w/o a cowl hood or something - then the hoses may not fit.....

I run a Weiand 8000 and the aforementioned 6210-3 and have 0 clearance even with the hood insulation cut out the diameter of dual snorkel cleaner.I don't know anything at all about edelbrock products but as per holley web site the 8000 is a medium rise intake, that performs greatttttt..........

I might want to retract the 1st part of reply.I have never seen a side hung secondary bowl with an accelerator pump. That does not mean they don't exist but I have never seen or heard of 1

Thanks panhead. If bowl replacement is necessary, the 4150 is going back on ebay. The cost of replacing the bowls would put this carb over the amount I was willing to spend on this project. So if the air cleaner spacer idea doesn't work (still haven't had a chance to check it) then the carb will be sold.

Yeah, thanks for the tip on the 6210-3. I didn't even know about that carb but it sounds like a viable alternative. I know that no matter what, the Edelbrock has got to go! Even if that means going to a Q-jet!

The air cleaner that originally came on my 396 ('66 Impala, 325 horse) is a drop base that fits both spreadbore and Holley w/centerhung flow bowls. I converted it to dual snorkel for the '57.

If you can find one of those, you could do the same. I know Impala Bobs (Mesa, AZ) has used parts, they may be able to scare one up. Might be worth giving them a shout (1-800-IMPALAS, or www.impalas.com ).
