Here's how you tell if it's computer controlled (and anyone correct emif I am wrong)
When you turn the key to ON (not start) do you see a 'service engine soon' light?
If you do, it's computer controlled.
And mine does the same thing when it's cold. I start it, I rev it because the choke doesnt work properly when it's really cold, then it dies no matter what. I was thinking it was ignition related...

Ok. Mine is not.
After it dies, is it easy to start again?
I think you should get a tuneup. New plugs, check the cap and rotor, new fuel filter, etc. Then see what happens...

Sounds like you just need to get a general tuneup. In the meantime, however, you may want to try adjusting the carb if you're sure you wont screw anything up. Check/adjust the idle speed and the mixture and such.
But some of that might be different if it is computer controlled, I'm not sure.

Umm I'm not sure. And I dont mind trying to help at all. I wish I could be more helpful... my first reccomentation is that you get a haynes or chilton manual. as for the adjusting screws, well, on my LG4 the idle screw is on the front driver side of the carb.

Raised!?!? If your idle is that high, you're going to do some serious damage to your transmission from it bucking like crazy when you put it into gear.
Unless you're tlaking about your fast idle, when it's cold, it needs to be turned DOWN. I think the sticker on my hood says it should be like 650 RPM.

Just remmber to go slow, and to rev the engine and check the tach VERY OFTEN. (and make sure it's warm when you do this

Fuel filter? Good question. I think it might be in a different spot on yours. Trace the fuel lines and you'll find it. :lala:

trying to stay running is called 'dieseling.'
lol, it means your idle speed is too high.
Serious.
As for the timing, you should consult a manual. there will be a sticker on your hood that tells you what to disconnect. then you need to go buy a timing light. you clip it onto the #1 spark plug wire, and point it at the balancer. make sure the idle is at the right speed, and then losten the dist. hold down bolt and turn it until the timing marks line up. The light will strobe.
But you should probably take it somewhere, this is the sort of thing that can be very costly if you screw it up.
