Idling too high, warm or cold

My car is idling at about 1500 RPM, warm or cold. When I unplugged the computer to time it, the RPMS dropped to a more acceptible 800ish. Does this mean there's something wrong with the computer or a sensor somewhere? How do I lower the idle on a CC carb? All of this is in park, when it's in drive, it drops to about 1000. Any input is appreciated.

Nah, once it's been warmed up, it still stays up there.

Is the choke plate still closed? It sounds to me like you either have a massive vacuum leak somewhere, or your choke adjustment is way out of whack.

Yeah, choke plate seems to stay closed the whole time, doesn't change anything when i open it manually. So it's probably a vacuum leak somewhere? I'll go over all the hoses and connections and whatnot tomorrow. Thanks.

Yeah...I was confusing the choke with the secondaries...stupid me. Choke's fine, and I got it to idle better by playing with the idle adjust screw. Thanks for your help though.

There is a solenoid on the front of the carb called the “throttle kicker”. It keeps the engine at 1500 RPMs when the A/C is on. It can also be turned on by the ECM!
A vacuum leak or misadjusted throttle stop screw will NOT be affected by the ECM being un-plugged. Try unplugging the Kicker!!!

Its mounted on a bracket on the lower front of the carb, on the driver side. It's angled slightly downward and has a single electrical wire connected to the front of it.
Looks like it was added as an afterthought the way it hangs out in space in front of the carb.

I have had a similar problem with my idle racing around 2000rpm.
had my mechanic adjust the carb for me and the idle dropped to 750rpm but a day later it went back to between 1500 and 2000rpm. If i hit the gas a little the rpm drops about 4 to 500rpm. Do you think that the same answer you gave applies to me?

Mr. C, It's easy to check. Warm up the engine then pull off the air cleaner housing so you can see the carb. Restart the engine.
The Kicker solenoid has a shaft (called the "plunger") that extends out quickly when 12 volts is supplied to the solenoid "coil". This shaft pushes against the throttle cable cam, keeping it from returning closed against the throttle stop screw. When the electricity to the coil is turned Off, the plunger slowly returns to inside the coil. You can clearly see it operating. Just unplug the wire and see if the plunger moves!

To tell you the truth, I don’t think this is your problem. It sounds more like you have a problem with the Choke/Fast idle cam sticking. But I’m just guessing.
I've fixed a sticking Fast idle by spraying the outside of the carb with WD-40, I spray it once or twice a year to keep it from sticking.

#510 is the throttle kicker assembly.
