1406 setup
I'm trying to get my carb all setup and ready to go, but have some questions. The port for the PCV, do i just leave this open if i dont have a PCV? This is a v6->v8 swap and it's all non-emmissions.
Also, how should i wire the electric choke? Does this just receive +12 from the bat or alt or should it be on a switch?
I dont have ANY of the original wiring, everything is getting custom wired.

well, if u have a 700r4, you should get a tv made ez kit from bowtie overdrive to make sure your tranny works as it should, they have brackets for your throttle cable as well. Do not get a lokar setup, they are junk and they bend.

You definetly need to hook up a PCV to the 1406. If your valve covers do not have breather holes for this, I suggest getting some that do. The way it connects is the vacuum line in the front of the carb hooks to the drivers side valve cover and the passengers side cover either has a breather cap with filter or a hose running to your air cleaner assembly grabbing air after the filter. if you don't hook this up, the car will idle really high (about 2000 rpm for a normal setting) If you lower the setting down to the recommended 750 rpm idle, it will idle so rough, you'd swear you're going to break a motor mount (at least my 1406 did without the valve hooked up) The electric choke needs to be wired to a source that is only on when the car is running. I wired mine to the turn on wire for my stereo since it was easily accesible to me, but any switched source will do, even a homemade one (just dont forget to turn it off after you shut off the car)

can i cap off the pcv port, or leave it open to achive the results i need? I'm limited on $ and i already have the valve covers and breathers. is there any other way that doesnt require that i ditch what i've already bought and isntalled?

Cap the port if you want, but you'll be increasing your oil contamination just to save the cost of a $5 PCV valve and a foto long piece of 3/8 hose.

it's not that i dont want to buy a pcv, it's that i already spent $ on the damn breathers. So what are the breathers for then? Shouldnt that the the same thing? I thought PCV was to take the fumes from the crank case and put the back through the carb for emissions? Wont the breathers do the same thing, except just release the fumes into the engine bay?

Which isn't a good thing. And not all that effective, since there's no delta pressure between the breathers.
Breather on one valve cover, PCV valve on the other. That's the way to go.

Yeah, the reason for the valve and hose is to use vacuum to pull the vapors out of the engine rather than let them float out. If theres no pressure negative (sucking) or positive (blowing) then the vapor wont really move at all and stay stagnant.
