gas dripping from the squirters
gas dripping from the squirters
i was underneath the hood the other day i noticed that gas would drip from the secondary and primary squirters. it wasnt a constant drip just a drip here and there. what would cause this???

float level set too high
float sunk or sinking
something stuck in the needle and seat
too much fuel pressure (6psi is about max for non- racing applications)
idle screw set too high-- pulling too much air through the primaries, causing fuel to come through main metering. (doesn't explain the secondaries though)
my guess is the one of the first 4
you didn't mention what kind of carb. either way, it's the same.

ooh ok.. here is a question.. does it sit right on top of the intake? If so it could be fuel boiling in the bowls... it is common so I hear.. Mine does the same thing on hot summer days.. Started when the 1" plastic spacer was removed...
Yeah, it's call "percolation" and does exactly as you describe. Get the carb better isolated from engine heat. They also make carb heat shields which is like a fairly thick phenolic gasket (1/4") and a metal tray sticking out front and back to keep radiant heat from the intake from hitting the bottoms of the carb float bowls. Old racer stuff but still works to this day. Usually requires some mild trimming of the part to clear various obstacles here and there.

This thread has had me puzzled. Is it actually dripping from the squirters, or from the boosters?

its actually dripping from the squirters, i have a 1" plastic spacer plus a heat shield and the fuel is still boiling, when the car warms up and has been running for a while, vapor will start coming from the vent tubes then fuel droplets will start coming and if u look down the carb fuel with be coming out of the squirters even with the motor at like 2500 rpms and it will start breaking up badly, i have no idea why the fuel is boiling? does anybody have problems with the fuel lines getting too hot maybe???

I've never seen fuel drip from the accelerator pump squirters unless something is wiggling the throttle which would be actuating the pumps.
if it is dripping out the boosters (things hanging in the center of each bore), then the float level is too high, or there are some messed up passages in between the metering plates and the carb body, or you have the wrong gaskets there.
or it's also possible that you have the throttle open too far to maintain an idle. try opening up the rear throtle some, (turn the screw on the throttle stop a little, not the idle mixture screws if it has them), then you can close the front ones slightly to bring the idle speed down and that should slow down the air through the front side.
where does it idle right now, what rpm??
at 2500 rpm, you might actually see some fuel from the boosters as you would be entering the main metering circut of the carb which is where the fuel is supposed to come out.
