choke wire location

I am having problems with my choke. I have no idea where the stock wire is located. Somebody seems to have cut it and run a wire to the fuse box, however this is leaving the choke with power all the time. what general area should i be looking for the stock choke wire? Its an 84 z28 by the way

It comes out of the harness that is on the passenger side valve cover.

Choke powered all the time means the choke is hot and open all the time. You might as well not have a choke.

You could try finding a switched source in the fuse panel, at least temporarily.

Oh, no, ok. I misunderstood. I thought he meant it was powered all the time the key was on. So I was obviously confused.

do you know if its in the same bundle of wires that are coming from the ecm harness? or is it coming from the harness that is located at the back of the passenger side valve cover?

It is NOT in the ECM harness; it's in the other one.

It's dark blue. Should have had a funky grey connector on the wire originally.

If you look in the wire loom for the other harness besides the ECM one, you might find it tucked back into there.

guess i'll have to look again. a picture would really help me out though. also the wire has been cut, the connector is on the end of the wire that they spliced and ran to the fusebox.

Not much to show in a pic.... just a LIGHT blue wire (my brain must have got a cramp ealrier; I went and looked at the schematic in Merlin's response in the "Alternater" post in the Tech board)..... in stock form, it comes out of the wiring harness by the right valve cover that's NOT the ECM one; that is, it's in the one with the alternator wiring.

It doesn't go to the fuesbox, from the factory. I think you can just rip all that hack stuff out of there.

Look inside the wire loom for a LIGHT blue wire. I don't think a pic will help.

i dont seem to have anything from my harness that goes to the alternator. a pic of that part of the harness at least would get me in the right direction

ok, this is what i did. I could never see this light blue wire you guys were talking about so i opened the harness right where it enters the engine bay....i pulled out the light blue wire and spliced it to the wire running to my choke. now the choke light stays on all the time. i've been reading about the alternator and have looked at some pictures. the plug that goes into it has two wires in the pictures i've seen but mine is missing one, could this be the culprit?

finally got it all sorted out. the brown wire was not hooked up to the alternator so i took care of that. the choke light stayed on so i figured my relay was bad. well i will never know if the relay was bad because it wasn't even there. I bought the relay, popped it in and the choke works. thanks for all who chimed in.
