Carb issues - too stupid to know

I've obviously got some carb issues, and I'm too stupid to know what else to try. This weekend, I replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure guage, oil pressure sending unit. My carb is a week old. I've adjusted and set floats per instructions, and adjusted for greatest vacuum with mixture screws on front of carb. 1992 RS - 350 with Edelbrock 1405, Mallory 4309 pressure regulator, pressure set at 6psi, in-tank pump, 11*BTDC timing.

Car stalls on hard turn or hard brake, bogs sometimes when foot in it, other times acts like it's running out of gas. No backfires, runs good in driveway, but wants to leave me stranded on road. I can't tell if it wants more gas, or less - sometimes acts to me like it needs more (stalls on hard brake or turn), sometimes acts like there's too much (bogs after foot in it) - I'm lost - any ideas?

Where do you have the power brake vaccum line run? The manifold or the back of the carb? Back when I had an Edlebrock on my TA I had originally ran the line to the carb like they say in the directions, and had the same problems. Got a manifold fitting and ran it to that and it solved my issues.

I have it on the carb - but I'll try that - I'll try anything!

Update:

Car runs great in driveway, but - It seems that when I make a circle (ie a cul-de-sac) it dies. It doesn't just crank right up - takes a few seconds on the starter and pumping gas peddle to get her going again. Also, sometimes when I mash my foot into it, it falls - both instances like it's running out of gas.

- I just replaced the in-tank pump with another new stock TBI pump
- I replaced the fuel filter
- I have the pressure set to 6-7psi. (see below)
- I've checked and adjusted float levels per Edelbrock directions.
- I checked pump output - takes 2 minutes to fill 1 gallon can

Pressure: I noticed after a few drives around the block, that the pressure seems to change on me while I'm driving - not by much, but some. I set it at 6psi, engine was plenty warm (fans running), and after a few laps around the block, I stopped, while engine still running, just to take a look, and my pressure was down to 4psi. I adjusted it back up to 6psi, engine still running, and went again. Then, I hit the cul-de-sac, and she died. So I restarted it, and checked the pressure, and again it was 4psi. I adjusted again to 6psi, came home, and here I am.

If not the float levels, then what - I'm beyond my knowledge here.

perhaps your pump is not all the way to the bottom of the tank?

Try running your fuel pressure on the low side and run your floats a tiny bit lower than spec. Did you not only check the float height, but also the float drop down spec? What is happening is you are some how flooding out, which temporarily fouls the plugs and is causing your hard start. An edelbrock really does not need much fuel pressure, 4-5 psi should be enough. I have had problems getting Edebrocks to not flood the engine turning hard/hitting the brakes hard and I know I'm not the only one.

Well, I just replaced the fuel pump - I know it's damn close to the bottom anyways - and besides, the tank is full - cost me $3.09 a gallon, and it's up 10 cents since then!

run your floats a tiny bit lower than spec
OK - according to the carb manual, supposed to be 7/16 inch float level and 15/16 inch float drop (which is where I am now), and Edelbrock techs told me I could have drop more (like 1.5 inches), so your saying to make each dimension what? (I'm confused on what a tiny bit lower would be).

And thanks for replies!

the problem sounds like the fuel is sloshing to one side of the bowl during those manuvers... and cutting fuel off to the engine in effect... not just if you can use jet extentions on an edlebrock... but it may help...
