carb hold down bolt torque

Ok, this is about as basic as it gets. I did try the search feature and found nothing. In regards to the torque on the carb hold-down studs. Is there a specific torque figure or is it just "snug them down and let it go at that? (this has been my usual routine) I thought I read somewhere that they were to be tightened to 10 ft/lbs, but I can't find it in any of my manuals. It's an Edelbrock Performer on an Edelbrock EPS manifold using carb studs instead of bolts. TIA

sorry, I just snug them down lightly. 10ft/lbs sounds right though, it's a weeny amount of torque.

If you can put a screwdriver type handle on the end of your 1/2" socket then tighten it that way.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the replies. I guess I never stopped to think about a specific torque spec. Since I'm working with all new parts, I've become overly cautious about overtightening and warping things. Guess I'm getting paranoid in my old age! Thanks again!
Brad

PS- I like that screwdriver handle idea!

I usually get either a really stubby socket wrench, or turn the wrench by rotating the "head" rather than the way you're supposed to.

Think I read it as 10 INCH pounds not foot pounds.

yeah 10 foot pounds is going to warp something majorly.

No, actually 10 ft-lbs sounds about right. You can try 10 in-lbs if you want, but you'll probably never get the base gasket to seal, especially if it's new.

Well I had to go digging on what it would be. Holley recomends 60 inch lbs or 5 foot lbs on their carbs. Don't have a Haynes or Chiltons in front of me to look up stock specs to see if it's any different.

I highly doubt any other QJet is going to be different, certainly not any of the 170xxxx series.
