I recently rebuilt my Quadrajet. It is an earlier model, (non-CCC). I used the electric choke off of my CCC, (original was heated) and I was looking at the functionality of it. I was told that some electric chokes open in the opposite direction. I looked at mine, and it seems that the element would close the choke when warm. (I could be wrong). I removed, and flipped over the spring element in choke, and now the choke won't stay closed. What's wrong here? Am I wrong.

Is there any online tut that shows diagrams, and tells about it's function?

Yes, I have done a Google search, and searched the boards.
And I have the Haynes manual, but it's in storage now.
I checked All Data, but it doesn't really say much aobut that.

The coil is only to open the choke back up after it is warm. It is closed mechanically.

 

I understand that but the choke flap stays open on it's own. What "mechanically" closes the choke?
On the heated choke, the coil opened, and closed the choke. But on the electric choke, the coil only pushes the choke one way.
Does any one have any exploded veiws, or pictures of how the choke is suposed to work?

 

Ok, I found out how the choke is supposed to work. So I took the choke apart and returned everything to the way that it came. When I installed it, I adjusted the choke closed with tension on the flap. The car wouldn't idle, and was hard to start, and smoked like a chimney. So I relieved tension on the flap and it idles good. The car runs great now. Is this ok?

 

If the car runs great then I think you have your answer. If it starts good and runs good then it's good.
