Throttle Cable only Travels 80%

Hey guys, almost finished fine tuning this thing.

-Holley 750VS swap from 350 TPI

I have an adjustable bracket from Specter (Yeah the cheap one), and I can adjust it so that the throttle cable is nice and tight against the stud with no slack, but when I floor the gas pedal as far as I can, the cable only gets about 80% travel at most. The pedal hits the floor and cannot move anymore. But if I go out and pull the throttle down on my own, it will go all the way.

Any suggestions? I contemplated hacking off the bottom half of my gas pedal but I decided it was a really bad idea lol. Is this cable just too long? Will I have to get a shorter one from a carbed F body? If this is the case then why wont the throttle lever go that extra 20%, even though it is nice and tight?

I'd go pick up a lokar adjustable throttle cable then. You "might" be able to bend the gas pedal assembly to get a little more throw, but if it's slack free with the throttle closed then it should have more than enough travel right now to hit WOT. Is the pedal floppy while the throttle is closed? sometimes there is another 1/4" of cable slack down by the gas pedal that needs to be taken up.

Are you using the TPI cable?

With the cable detached from the carb but attached to everything else, can you pull it farther out of the housing than where it attaches to the carb?

Re: Throttle Cable only Travels 80%

Yes I'm using the TPI cable. I'll try that out tomorrow and see what happens.

And xpndbl3, both ends are snug with no play in the pedal.

I guess a better way of describing this is that "the pedal is running out of room to move", thus only being able to be pushed to 80% of what it should be pushed to, and as such, hits the carpet before it can get to 100%.

Re: Throttle Cable only Travels 80%

Update?

I'm kind of curious because my tbi throttle cable is very long, stretches almost to the radiator. Will I have to change it for my carb setup?

I don't know for certain that the TPI has the same linear travel as carb. You may need to hook the cable lower on the throttle arm.

Most guys get a carb cable. TBI is the same as carb, from what I've heard (I have never dealt personally with TPI or TBI).

Re: Throttle Cable only Travels 80%

I used a TBI cable and a holley bracket. I did have to trim the black plastic guide that protects the end of the cable. When I went WOT, it would hit the holley bracket. Other than that, it works great.
