Carb Leaking
Well I was messing with my car and started it and came to look at the engine and i saw something leaking from under the aircleaner area, so i took off the air cleaner to see what i was and sure enough it was fcomming from around the carb, I turned the car off and rubbed the area and it seemed to be about a tea spoon or more and it was leaking onto the manifold and from the stains its been doing it or a while, Where would be the most likely place for it to be leaking, I beleive its either comming from the fuel line just in the front left that screws in to the carb ( it says filter on it, what filter is this? ) or the bottom right corner where the carb meets the manifold, Ive never dealt with a leak or anything to do with fuel for this matter so what would be the best way to go about repairing this. I took it to the shop to have them fix it and they apparently replaced some gasket, but my mom picked up my car and has nl clue which one, but i checked a little while ago and its still leaking. any help would be great.

sometimes people a secondary filter right before the carb, check the ends it is probably leaking out from there. also run the car with the air cleaner off and watch for it.

Re: Carb Leaking
The filter you are refering to is your fuel filter. It is inside the carb. To tighten the line going into the carb u have to use to wrenches one on the piece that screws into the carb and one the fuel line dont know the exact sizes sorry. If you tighten the line and it still leaks then take the piece that screws into the carb out and it should have a little clear plastic gasket on it. If not then this could be where your leak is.Hope this isnt confuseing lol let me know if you need more help.
----------
also you turn the wrenches in the oppisite direction of each other to tighten.be careful which way because you could twist the fuel line.you could also change the filter while your at it if it hasnt already been changed.

Ok I though that was where the fuel filter was but then my brother said it wasnt so i took his word for it, Thats the only place I can figure its comming from unless its from directly behind that, but its for sure in that area......chilton says something about releiving fuel system pressure first, how do I do that?

Yeah, thats how i originally found it, Its comming from around the fuel filter or directly behind it somewhere and it doesnt take long for it to be there, I will try to take pics if i get a chance. I was going to take the filter out and put a new one thinking maybe that little rubber washer thing was bad but i have no clue how to releive the fuel system pressure and that kinda stuff scares me, then i realized i dont have a big enough wrench, im gonna try and take it to the shop tommarow

Take the fuse out for the electric fuel pump (may be a breaker, I'm not completely sure). Or, unplug the oil pressure switch. Then start the engine, run it for a half minute or so.
It's not that big a deal. If it's leaking, just unhook the line after it's been sitting for a few hours.

Re: Carb Leaking
Ok, problem solved, I took it to my mechanic and showed him where it was comming from and watched him unhook the line to the filter and te thread where wearing then causing it to leak out, so he rethreaded it and all is well now, thanks
