drilling out idle bleed?

has anyone drilled out the idle bleeds in their 3310 holley as a mod to get it to idle right on a 350 sbc? i've read that this is the only mod to do to get it to idle right. it's to get more air in at idle and still get the idle screws to 1.5 turns out. right now, my idle screws are out .5 turns with max. vacuum...

Re: drilling out idle bleed?

How is the idle quality right now? does it idle smooth? If its running fine, I would be hesistant to drill the bleeds out. The 1.5 turns that is a recommended starting point, is just a ball park figure that should work for most setups.

idles smooth....20" vacuum!!!...alright, i also read: don't mess with the bleeds but put a thin wire in the idle feed restrictions in the primary metering block!....carbs are complicated......

20" vacuum, holy crap that must be a small cam. Is the ZZ4 cam w/ 1.6 rockers pulling that much vac?

Re: drilling out idle bleed?

if it runs fine I'd leave it, sounds like it is getting enough air and barely needs the amount of fuel needed as the mixture screws add more fuel not air. If anything you "could" put some welding wire or the wire inside a twist tie like from the grocery store for fruit bags, but if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Chevy High Performance magazine had an article about all that stuff a couple of months ago.

My opinion is if you're going to get into that stuff, you're better off with a main body with screw-in bleeds, and metering blocks with screw-in restrictors.

Re: drilling out idle bleed?

Yup...that's the logical answer.....get a carb that fits the application!!!and not try to shoe-horn one in that's not ment for your motor! lesson learned!
