Carb Cleaner
I am out of Carb cleaner and I want to clean this carb before I install it. I have some Engine (Brite) Cleaner. Can I safely use this or should I just hold out until I can get some carb cleaner?

Re: Carb Cleaner
It should be ok. Carb cleaner usually has stronger solvents to get rid of varnish and gum deposits inside the carb, and usually has lubricants to leave a film on external moving parts.

Re: Carb Cleaner
So using the engine cleaner won't mess with any seals or anything on the carb? And should I rinse the carb with water when done like I would if I used the engine cleaner on the engine.

Re: Carb Cleaner
they sell gallon containers of carb cleaner that you dip different carb parts into overnight and they come out nice as well.

Re: Carb Cleaner
That's "real" carb cleaner, different from the stuff in the cans. It doesn't have the lubricants, but it'll dissolve just about anything... dirt, varnish, gum, carbon, flesh...

Re: Carb Cleaner
I know Steve. I was being cheap because my money was low and I wanted to clean this carb I got from Denny before I put it on the car. So all I had in the garage was some Engine Brite. Someone told me it would eat away the gaskets so I thought i would ask the experts here first. Aperion came with the answer.

Re: Carb Cleaner
engine cleaner is mostly diesel based solvents IIRC so it won't eat away at anything.
