What q-jet do i have?
I have two q-jets that are totally diffrent from one another, the one im using right now has a "fin" on the top front and has a vacuum line that attaches to the passenger side on the carb and my other one has that same thing but in the bottom of the carb and with a much shorter vacuum line. I did a search and found nothing even close to this topic and i didnt even know there were diffrent quadrajets made. I was reading a book i have last night thats focused on sbc performance and the author siad that there was only one original q-jet made by a company called "rochester" he also siad there were alot of rip-offs of the carb and that the original is a very good carb that is also very had to find. can anyone point me in the right direction? i can take pictures too but its dark out now.

Some particular reason you like putting non-Chevy versions of the QJet on your Chevy engines? All Chevy QJets have the fuel inlet pointing out 90* to the passenger side (Cadillacs, too). Buick, Olds and Pontiac QJets have the fuel inlet coming straight in from the front.
There were probably hundreds of different QJets over the years. All the same in basic design layout, but with just oodles of slight differences in the details.
Make sure whatever QJet you want to install has the right throttle arm to take your style throttle cable (and transmission kickdown cable, if applicable).
Here's what a typical late Chevy Qjet would look like:

Re: What q-jet do i have?
Q jets had many different series over the years
and were different between divisions of GM
there are charts online on pages out there that decode the casting codes and tell you what division they were and year and so on
the most common nowadays are the 1705 and 1708 series,
IE the last two series
i have a few crates of Q jets i save any Q jets i come across, and parts of them, i have trays of small parts from non rebuildable ones over the years too
carter made lots of them for rochester and GM when rochester couldnt keep up in the late 70s
they say carter on them instead of rochester

Post the carb numbers stamped on the driver's side of the carb body. In the first pic the carb on the right side appears to be a Pontiac high performance application.

Re: What q-jet do i have?
That is a 1974 carb. The 4th digit in the carb number is the model year. Quadrajets didn't exist in 1964. It was made on the 338th day of 1973. Carb number comes up as a 1974 Chebbie 350 automatic carb. That doesn't exactly make sense to me because it has a front fuel inlet but I've heard that some Chebbie truck applications used a BOP front inlet carb body.
