Re: is this the correct part number for l69 carb???

Probably the easiest way to tell is whether it has DR Rods on a F hanger from the factory. Hangers are stamped right on top w/ letters ranging from B to V and rods are stamped w/ 2 letters.

Re: is this the correct part number for l69 carb???

i hope it is because im changing over to l69 setup. i do not know anything about carbs and dont want to pay someone to rebuild and make my carb like l69. any pics or info on how to tell hangers and that stuff? sorry im just learning about carbs. right now my carb is not pluged in. just bought car dont know why its not pluged in. and i have no choke. i have to keep gas on for about 5 min for it to idle. would be nice to have a drop in carb for my setup.

From the pic in your other thread https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/carb...ht-my-l69.html , looks like someone did the old "remove all the smog crap" butchering on your poor car, with no clue what they were doing. The coolant temperature sensor and barometric pressure sensor are nowhere to be seen. No A.I.R. (not a functional issue). Are those centerbolt valve covers?

The "right" carb may be the least of your worries.

Re: is this the correct part number for l69 carb???

Here are the part #'s on L69 Q-jets-

83: 17083205

84: 17084205 M/T, 17084208 A/T

85: 17085203

86: 17086040

17059182 is not in the factory GM F-body parts catalog, I have the standard catalog of Chevy casting #s which has all the Rochester carbs 55-88, and 17059182 is not listed. There are a bunch of 1705XXX Q-jets used on '79 model Chevys, especially trucks.

found an excellent site on Monte Carlo SS w/ 305 L69 engines through 1988. I'm setting base timing as soon as I have time to 6*BTDC . a little of topic but hey, looks like Monte's got an L69 through '88.

Re: is this the correct part number for l69 carb???

five7 good eye. there is a vacume tube coming out of the front of the carb. it goes to a dual plug right by the thermostate housing but is taped over.? the two wires coming from the carb are not wired to anything. did not look might have come off somwhere. the 87 trans am had center bolt valve covers. in canada maybe my car did not come with air pump. i know my 85 trans am never came with an air pump. what does the check engine light look like? i dont think i have that. here are a bunch of pics i hope someone can help out.

That's not a computer controlled carb. That's a 2-stage accelerator pump type used on some U.S. trucks and Canadian non-CC cars.

You can use that carb, but you'll need all the sensors in place and operating. And, a CC distributor.

Did you just update your user info? I don't recall anything about Canada except what I said.

The carb you have on the car is the correct one. The CC carb is no good to you.

The connector on your current carb is supposed to go to a thermal switch on the thermostat housing, which obviously has been removed. It doesn't really affect the overall operation of the carb except to give you a full accelerator pump shot all the time.
