***Help Car Stalls***
well i went to go and start my car and it stalls after like 30 seconds or earlier. I have it on TDC and the Rotor is pointing to the #1 cylinder on cap. Well i thought i capped everything and i guess i didnt. Well then i did then i saw i had oil pouring out of the back of the intake manifold. Could that be causing my car to stall?? So after that i sealed the back of the intake and all. I havent tried after that but then again my starter cracked in half and still didnt get a new one. But im just wondering if that would make my car stall and if not what else could it be..
thanks
i swapped from a 305 tbi to a 350 carb'd
thanks

Re: ***Help Car Stalls***
if it started and then stalls out....might be like a sticking chock...or you have a vacuum leak somewhere...

Re: ***Help Car Stalls***
ok well the choke does seem like it sticks because it only opens alittle then stops if that is the case what is the best way to fix that without buying a new carb thanks

When the car is started cold, the choke should be completely shut until the engine starts. When it starts, the vacuum break or choke pull off should open the choke butterfly slightly. As the engine continues to run, the choke should slowly open up. Sounds like yours is operating normally as far as the choke pull-off is concerned, but you didn't have it running long enough to fully open the choke.
Oil leaking from the back of the manifold will not cause the engine to stall. The bigger question is why it was leaking from the back of the manifold - had you just replace the intake gaskets? If so, did you get them installed correctly? If the manifold isn't sitting down properly on the heads, that could be the cause of a big vacuum leak, and may be why it was leaking from the back of the manifold.
Also, "TDC" comes around twice in every full combustion cycle. What is important is having the #1 cylinder at TDC in the compression stroke.
More information needed about what was going on before this condition developed.

Re: ***Help Car Stalls***
don't give up....just have to find what's wrong with it....so it runs for 15-30 seconds then dies.....are you just letting it idle and then dies....or are you pumping the gas and it dies....maybe your not getting enough fuel up there....bad fuel pump maybe??? But the vacuum leak idea could be it too....when you go to fix intake manifolds...buy new ones...and make sure you put black rtv silicon on front and back center sections of block (inbetween heads) to seal those...don't reuse intake gaskets......keep trying..you'll find it eventually...keep asking questions and posting info and you'll find it...

Re: ***Help Car Stalls***
may be a dumb question on my end, but are you running a return style fuel pressure regulator? what do you have for pressure at the regulator?

open the front flaps all the way so they cant close. auto chokes suck!
what made your starter bust? if your starter breaks again you may have to buy an old school cast starter. i had to get one for my roc because of high compression! i broke seven aluminum starters before i got it right. my starter fits a 68 impala.
