Re: 86 caprice 305

I used to have an 83 with a 4bbl and it would get a little over 20mpg on the highway. I can't remember in town. I drove it like a granny because it had a 700r and I was afraid it was going out. I had an 84 impala with a 3.8v6 and it got like 30+ with a vacuum leak lol. As for increasing fuel economy, proper maintainance and tune.

My stock 305 with all of the emissions equipment intact got 25+ highway and 20 commuting, even though the torque converter lock-up didn't work at the time.

Well i would only cut the cat off for my exhaust. I was just wondering because i found a 86 caprice for 650 and they said it runs great but it just need a new carb. Think thats a good deal?

Are you asking what kind of gas mileage the Caprice would get, or what kind of mileage it would get in a 3rd gen?

The Caprice is heavier and less aerodynamic, figure on 2-5 MPG less than the same engine would get in a 3rd gen.

Re: 86 caprice 305

yea I've got an 87 caprice with the electronic controlled 4 bbl. I'm thinking about throwing that crap away and going old school. the blue sensor on the top drivers side is unplugged because if i plug it in and hit the gas the car stalls out. I get terrible milage, probably as a result. I took off all of my emissions because most of them were causing vacuum leaks or i just didn't like them *cough*AIR*cough*.

EDIT: here's the cardomain link for it. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3335883
