Sorry to hear about your Edelbrock purchase.
Did you replace the distributor while you were at it?
If not too late, return the Edelbrock and get your money back. Use the money to get a rebuilt q-jet.

Re: new carb but no start
Too funny....But too true.
I was given an Edelbrock from a workmate a few months ago.
I tried saying no but he insisted I try it.
I held it for a few weeks and took it back telling him that I'd have to change more than I wanted to make it work. because it's not a CCC.
I told him I'd just sell it.
That prompted him to actually want it back to sell himself.
Why downgrade?
Anyways back to the issue...
Have you been successful starting it with starter fluid to eliminate other possibilities?
How did you determine the fuel starvation?
Will it start pouring fuel down the carb?

Was it a CCC? Is it possible the ECM isn't "reading" the carb--(idle,throttle position etc?)

Re: new carb but no start
CCC...computer controlled carburetor I believe.
Qjets are CCC but maybe not all.
I saw no way to hook all that stuff up on the edelbrock. TPS etc.
And seeing as the ecm and all the other stuff control the workings I did not want to change the dissy etc for a non CCC.
I could be wrong about it all.
However it looked to be too much hassle for a downgrade according to all I had read about it.

It isn't that hard, guys.
The original q-jet was computer controlled. The Edelbrock carb is not and cannot be computer controlled.
Without a computer controlled carb, you need a non-computer controlled distributor, commonly called vacuum/mechanical advance. But, even without the computer inputs, the engine should start with a computer distributor and non-computer carb.
My recommendation stands - get rid of the Edelbrock and fix or replace the computer controlled q-jet.

Re: new carb but no start
ok so yes i did try using starting fluid and nothin. i have not touched the dist cuz the car work before so theres no need. this was supposed to be minor fix. all vacums are good, fuel presurre is good its got fuel at the carb and it is flooding it cuz it wont start so i still have no idea. like i said as soon as i got it on i started it and it ran really rough and started like twice more after that let it sit over night and wouldnt start next morning. i would get the qjet if i had the money but since i just droped alll my saved up money (supposed to be for some headman headers) on this gay *** carb idk wat to do

Re: new carb but no start
Change out the distributor, if you went to a non ccc you only did the job half way...Go get a non ccc dist mid 70's style vac advance you will be glad you did..

Re: new carb but no start
Your car will run much better with the dist changed. First off check everything on your carb 'check for fuel 'and all your linkage ,make sure it is all properly connected and not binding on you. Then go and get a stock hei non ccd ,Your computer dist should let the car start with the non ccc edelbrock. But your timing maybe off due to the fact the computer is trying to recieve readings from your carb''' TPS AND MIXTURE SOLENOID'which is not connected anymore .It will make the computer wacky trying to control the dist timing...

Re: new carb but no start
The difference between the wo dist is
The computer control dist has two set of wire which one of them run to the cap and the other to a connect near the firewall that is control by the ecm
the other dist it has a vaccum on it. it look like a circle on the side of the dis that connect to a vaccum port.
Hope that help you out.

Re: new carb but no start
i forgot all about the dist with switching from a quadrajet to a non quadra jet carb..... isnt there 2 wires... you can splice together in the computer harness to make it run without changing the dist. i know i did it 10 yrs ago.....

Initial timing at idle with vacuum advance disconnected, 8-12 degrees BTDC.
What other tuning "suggestions" do you need?
