wiring question, please help
I am converting to carburetor from tpi, my main question is what are the 3 relays for on the firewall on the drivers side near the brake booster. I am planning on keeping my fuel pump in tank and leaving the computer under the dash. I an stripping out the smog pump wires, cruise control wirring and vaccuum hoses, evap canister, tps wiring, knock sensor, egr valve and wiring and IAC valve.
Second question is after reading what I plan on taking out, will i have a problem with the computer shutting off power to my fuel pump with this stuff removed
and third and final question, how should i go about wiring my non hei mallory unilite distributor??
Please give me some insight, thank you

The relays are for the fuel pump and radiator fans.
Those computer wires you listed will all come out with the ECM harness in one piece. No need to "strip" them out.
The computer will be pretty much brain dead, but the good news is it will still let the fuel pump relay work.
Assuming you're talking about a standard coil-in-cap HEI distributor, the pink wire that currently goes to the coil will go to the "BATT" terminal on the distributor (a misnomer, as it is switched voltage, not battery voltage), and the white wire goes to the "TACH" terminal on the distributor. Replacement terminals are available to put on those wires so they plug directly into the distributor.

i'm not sure why people keep telling me the computer harness is seperate. i have a 1992 tpi 305 and the harness is all one big harness tied together and does not have 2 seperate harnesses. and i am not going with a hei or coil-in-cap didtributer. I am going with a mallory unitlite with seperate coil.
thanks for the help though, i did get so good info from that

So, everything in your one big harness comes from one side of the engine compartment?
That's one weird 3rd gen you have, then.
There might be some things that need to be unbundled from each other, but you shouldn't have to disturb the wires that you'll need to keep.

ohhhh, it comes out of both sides but are all bundled together in the loom. Your saying in can unbundle them out of the loom and seperate them?? that would hel but i need to keep the ecu/pcm harness to run my speedo and fuel pump correct??

It was my understanding (the "newest" 3rd gen I've owned is an '86 donor car, so I'm operating on 2nd hand information) that the VSS didn't go through the ECM harness. I could be wrong, though.
The fuel pump shouldn't be run through the ECM engine harness, but I could be wrong there, too.

Re: wiring question, please help
I don't mean to thread jack, but i went threw and did the same thing but one step further buy removing the computer and everything with it.i only kept the main wires to and from the starter and battery. i wired in new relays for my fans, water pump, and fuel pump. now the question is the tan/white wire on the alternator? what does that do?
