Hi, got a question about my carb, did not find any answer on the forum, i have an 84 z28 HO, and the carb stem broke off, it lifts completely out of the carburetor, what would be the option to repair that? any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: broken carburetor stem
if that picture is of your carb and stem it doesnt look broken but rather unscrewed, if there is a piece of the stem that is broken off you will need to disassemble your carb to extract the broken piece from the bottom of the main body then retap the threads to clean them up and get a new stem after reassembling the carb.

If it "lifts out", meaning it won't screw into the air horn, the option is to helicoil the main body. The carb should be disassembled when this is done.

Re: broken carburetor stem
Hey, thanks for all the quick response, that stem will not screw back in, and i try the jb weld with no luck. A friend of mine thinks that stem is attach to the carb bowl itself, if thats true, i should be looking for another quadraejet outer body (carb body) and rebuilt the carb again, am i correct with that assumption? Thanks.

The air cleaner mount stud screws into the main body, correct.
Take the carb apart, then take the main body and stud to a machine shop. They should be able to helicoil the main body, using the stud to determine the correct thread size and type.
You could also send it to any number of shops that do mail order business, such as Jet http://www.jetchip.com/Shop/shopdisp...ppp=10&catID=2 or Carbs Unlimited http://www.carburetion.com/index.htm .
Or, you could look for another carb and rebuild it, or buy a rebuilt carb.

Re: broken carburetor stem
Thanks Five7 for all the responses, I will try to take it apart and see if they can helicoil it, if not then I will see if they can rebuild it or replace it. Thanks again.
