Choke Issue Please Help Urgent!

Okay so I just had my new clutch installed yesterday just in time for tonight. Well when I started the car this morning, I noticed the choke light came on. It didn't bother me because it was so cold anyway. Well I took it around the block and once I got to a stop, the RPMs just dropped! The car started back up, but once I got to another stop it did the same thing. Then it did it once while on the road (just dropped while going 40) as soon as it's in neutral. I'm wondering if It's burning too rich? And if this is the case, is there a way I could just close the valve? Any Ideas are greatly appreciated!!!!

How long had you been driving the car at 40mph? It should warm up pretty quickly at that speed.

The "choke light" means either the alternator isn't putting out enough voltage above battery voltage to close the choke heater relay, or the choke heater fuse is blown. If the choke heater relay doesn't close, or the fuse is blown, the choke thermostat won't warm up as the engine warms up to open the choke.

The choke closes when you tap the accelerator before starting the engine (you are doing that, right?). If it doesn't open, you would be running rich when the engine is warm.

Okay, I found a wire that was disconnected near the carb and the choke light turned off. However I still have the stalling issue. I raised the idle and it doesn't seem to be as bad, unfortunately it idles now at 1200 (way too high).
It drives fine for about 5 minutes and then it starts having issues again. On the bright side, it no longer smells like it's burning rich

Re: Choke Issue Please Help Urgent!

RESOLVED!!! I let the car idle for a while in the driveway. No problems until I pressed on the clutch. It died right when I got to the floor every time. I couldn't figure it out and it seemed so strange because they shouldn't be connected. I took the panel off above the clutch and sure enough a green wire was wrapped around the pedal and headed up towards the starter. Every time I pressed the clutch to a certain point, it would cut out.

Aha, another carb problem solved without touching the carb...

Glad you found it. Of course, the choke wire needed to be hooked up as well, but that wasn't the carb's fault.
