getting rid of computer carb

I have spoke with a guy that said he could give me 25-30 hp if I switched from the metered quadrajet to a pre electronic quadrajet. Does this sound plausible?

The CCC carb is exactly the same as the non-computer version, except for the primary mixture control while cruising.

Re: getting rid of computer carb

Nor are you likely to get that by switching to an edelbrock or holley etc. The quadrajet already flows plenty for a 305.

So it sounds like I was being BSed.
I was an ole school gear head. When I started screwing around with third gens, I've been dealing with electronics, and so far I despise it.

Ill buy your feedback Q jet. Electronics make everything clean and simple, provided you have data communication tools of course. Ever hear of the LS1?

Yeah, I've heard of the LS1. They have an aluminum block, heads, port fuel injection, and put out about 320 hp? Space age compared to metered qjet LG4. I just dropped off my car to have the carb rebuilt. I decided not to put the money into mechanical carb and distributor. I don't believe I could get the 25 hp I was told I could gain by going to mechanical setup. That was BS. I'm not gonna let this guy touch my engine.

Glad you saw the light.

Those who only want to "get rid of the computer junk", and go "old school carb", etc., see the light a little differently - kind of like a moth does.

Re: getting rid of computer carb

I thought I would post on this thread how my carb rebuild turned out.
It idles much smoother, the bog that was there when I accelerate is gone, the flat spot during acceleration is gone, and it accelerates much better with more power than before. I didn't check my gas mileage, but it seems to be much better. And yes, I'm glad I chose to stay with the computer controlled quadrajet.
