intake manifold?

I have an 89 RS i'm gonna dump a 327 with built vortec heads, Lunati 60103 cam, Holley 600cfm vac secondary, and a TH350 behind it. I'm looking at intake manifolds. I found a pretty sweet deal on a Performer RPM intake manifold. Do you think this will suit my needs? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

A Performer RPM is fine.

Re: intake manifold?

You will need some sort of drop base air cleaner as the RPM is higher than the original.

Re: intake manifold?

Edelbrock 7116 with a drop base should fit great under the hood.

You need a 1.5" drop base air cleaner. you can fit a 3" filter with no spacer or a 2" filter with the spacer.

Here is a good used one on ebay

Re: intake manifold?

The Performer RPM line is marginal for hood clearance in a 3rd gen. You might want to look into a Performer EPS or the Weiand Street Warrior lines. They are both modern computer flow-modeled designs, (like the RPM), just that the EPS and SW are lower profile (allowing easier fitmet of a reasonable sized air cleaner) and designed for a sub-6000 RPM powerband.

Re: intake manifold?

summit racing also has some newer design manifolds. they have the summit racing stage 1 intake manifold 1700-6700 rpm range similiar design to the rpm but they retail at there store for 125 new they work great as i have one in my 91 and it clears the hood. they are available for the vortec heads as well thats what i have for the same price at 125

Re: intake manifold?

That winters one won't fit vortec heads. Some people say the build quality of the Summit manifolds are horrible. I will look into it though.

Re: intake manifold?

yeah he needs an '87-up one to fit directly without modifying the four center holes angle(two on each side)

anything between '87 and '95 anyways

and then '96 up were less bolt holes in the intake and heads, the new SFI years

Re: intake manifold?

No, he would need a 96+ intake. That's the Vortec.
