Help, having a carb issue with my 84 L69 Powered T/A

When I put my foot down it feels like the vehicle is bogging and sputtering and my exhaust sounds like ****(still accelerates, just not as fast as it used to).. Not sure what the issue is.. I was told the car might be running too rich but have no clue what so ever to do and a local shop wanted to charge me alot of Cash $95 an hour ($95 minimum) just to adjust the air/fuel ratio and adjust my carb..

Vehicle does start up, but not right up like it used to and it seems to idle normally and if i put my foot down on the accelerator lightly it accelerates just fine with very minimal bogging/sputtering..

Can any of you (near the Modesto Area) help me out or at least point me out to a shop that can help me out?

With both of my parents having surgeries and being out of work for the time being I'm very tight on cash and can't afford to spend money if I can save even a few bucks on fixing this issue with my car..

Thanks

Invest in a Haynes repair manual (about $30-35) and read the sections on timing and carb adjustments.
Thoses Qjet carbs can be a little tricky, but are fixable and can be made to perform just fine.

If the car was mine, I'd go ahead and rebuild the carb. Get a rebuild kit from NAPA. (Maybe $40-50). Follow the instruction sheet that comes in the kit. Once its disassembled, the MOST important thing is to get it absolutly CLEAN inside and out. There are cans of carb cleaner that you soak all the parts in overnight. Once out of the cleaner, you'll need compressed air to blow-out all the little internal passages and holes.

Since you have more time then $$, take your time and read, read, read the manual. Rebuilding a Qjet carb is NOT that difficult and its not rocket science. Its 'doable' even if you consider yourself a novice.

Good Luck and remember to take your time.

I spent 20 minutes straight cleaning my carb body parts and the tech helping me said on a scale of 1-10 I had it at about a 2. Clean clean clean and blow them passages out.

BTW near the end, Qjet rebuilds paid about 2.5 hours warranty lol. And people wonder why some mechanics half *** things!

Make sure and order a float when you get your kit, I am pretty sure it is separate item.

Good advice and one thing I forgot to mention.

The float is not included in the rebuild kit and it is a separate item which should be available from NAPA.
