Re: gas pouring out

That is a vacuum line connection, if it has gas coming out of it then there are issues with the carb. I would think it needs rebuilt. It is leaking internally.

Re: gas pouring out

the one in the pic is one I have here at home thats just like the one on the 85 I looked at.He started the car up and had some smoke, like light blue.Oil I guess. No knocks or missing at all.About 10 seconds after start up gas come pouring out.He had an aftermarket air filter and nothing was hooked up to the nipple where the gas ran out.He said he had the stock stuff for it.whats the chances I could pull that carb off and put mine on and not have fuel run out if my carb is good?I can get this car for 500$

Re: gas pouring out

If it's a vac line like one of the previous posts say, just cap it off if your carb is good you should be ok. Vac leaks are never good

Re: gas pouring out

Fuel isn't supposed to be there.

If it is, the carb is fornicated.

Putting a vacuum cap on it won't fix it, it'll just conceal the evidence.

Kinda like, if you were walking down the street and saw a little old lady laying on the sidewalk clutching at her chest and looking all pale and gray, would you pull out her makeup and put on a little more of whatever it is that adds color, and think you've "helped" her?

The carb is messed up and needs to be rebuilt. PERIOD.

If your carb is good and is an exact replacement, then there shouldnt be any issues.

Re: gas pouring out

That's the bowl vent. It's intended to vent vapors from the carb into the charcoal canister. It is above the fuel bowl level as set by the float. The float is stuck open or some other 'fornication' has been committed upon that carb. See above.

Re: gas pouring out

Looks like a vent which means that your float is probably too high or dirt in the inlet needle/seat. Too much fuel pressure is another possibility.

This is an option. If you do this though, there is other things that need to be sorted out.

The Distributor will need to be swapped to a vacuum advanced unit since ECM controls Timing over base timing, which without input from the Carb won't do correctly.

If it is an automatic you will have to put in some way for the converter to lock-up for the transmission since this is also done by the ECM with input from other devices.

It's an option, but not a good one for all of the reasons stated.

Fix the carb. It's probably something simple with the float and/or needle/seat.

The computer q-jets were the best q-jets ever made. Going non-computer, whether q-jet, Holley, Edelbrock, whatever, is a downgrade.

Re: gas pouring out

ok,I checked prices on replacement carb like the one on it if I cant fix it myself. Not to bad.Under 300$.I think these carb setups have a fuel return on them dont they?Like the tpi and tbi tanks.I dont want to be messing with the dizzy at this time.Just get it to stop pouring 4$ a gal.gas all over the engine. Not to menchen the tourch effect!
