ecm wiring removal

So, I was able to remove the ECM and all wiring with no major issues. The car still runs. What do I do with the 2x4 inch hole that the wires used to run through from the passenger compartment? Does somebody make a grommet/plug for this? What are other people using?

go to the junktard and grab the pass throug connector from another thirdgen v6 and cut the wires flush. It would be a shame to hack your old harness.

is this a 89 or newer ? if so you need to bypass the starter enable relay and wire the fuel pump relay off the accessory of the ignition switch. If you swapped it to a carb you will also need to use a afpr to lower the fuel pressure.

you would have to look at the wiring schematic, you could run acc power to the wire in g terminal of the aldl, or the relay it self. there might be a red wire pigtail if not hook it to the relays coil power side.

Re: ecm wiring removal

if you post what ecm you pulled I can tell you what pin goes to the fuel pump relay.

I covered mine with a piece of sheet metal and some 3145 RTV to seal it up. That RTV holds really well and it isn't permanent so I can remove it later on if I choose to.

original fuel pump in tank. PO did a Frankenstein job on the wiring, and I'm still trying to figure out. the car runs fine with ECM gone. Don't know why the pump isn't cutting off as it should be.

what year car is this and what transmission ? the 90-92 uses the ecm as a vss buffer for the speedometer and 700r4 lockup but I think you would still need a dakota digital sgi-5 and ditch the ecm. the ecm is of no use since its not receiving distributor pulse the ecm doesnt work. if your using a 700r4 you need a lockup kit.

Re: ecm wiring removal

you will not need a ecm, the vss signal goes the a external buffer, you can hook acessory power to a1 of the cem harness a green/white wire.

actually you can pull the ecm and connect the wire in a6 a pink/blk wire to the wire in a1 the green/white wire.

And would that fix the speedo or both speedo and fuel pump?

Re: ecm wiring removal

that would fix the fuel pump, unless you yanked the wiring harness the speedometer will still work. There is a little yellow box nest to the ecm or behind the dash called the vss buffer. the vss sends a signal to the buffer and the buffer converts the signal and sends it to the speedometer, cruise if equipted and ecm.

Re: ecm wiring removal

a6 is the accessory power to the ecm and a1 drives the fuel pump

Re: ecm wiring removal

Ok got the starter by-pass done. Did the fuel pump seems to work but i noticed that with the key on the pump runs non-stop instead of the normal 3-5sec prime is this right?

Re: ecm wiring removal

Ok I am kinda in the same boat here, I disconnected the wiring harness from the ECM in my 1991 camaro prior to installing the 350 crate motor with edelbrock carb. Now I am very confused on how to make the fuel pump work properly. Also I don't understand the vatt system? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

Re: ecm wiring removal

for the vats you will need to install a jumper wire and pull the starter enable relay under the drivers side kick panel.
