sbc 383 expected gas mileage?

Ive got a 1987 camaro irocz with a swapped in 383. Ita got a 600 cfm eldebrock carb and is running a t5 tranny with a stock rearend which I believe are 3.23's. I could be wrong. I was just wondering what I could expect for city/hwy driving if i drive it nice not getting into it very often

city: 12-14
highway: 15-20

just a guess, i'm probably off. It's not a hard thing to figure out though, next time you're at the pump.

No need to avoid it for the whole tank, just fill it up, drive around town for about 15-20 miles, and fill up again to do your calculation. Of course this isn't the most accurate method, but it gives you something.

It's easy. Go visit a relative or something that's a couple hundre miles away and set your cruise.

that wouldnt work for me, i dont have cruise and with 4.10's it sucks on the hwy. i built the car to go,and be fun to cruise around in, not get good mileage. that was kind of my point, you put a 383 in it now you are worried how much fuel you are going to use after the fact?

3.73 gears here, cruise, auto, mild build 355, 320hp at the crank with a CC Quadrajet gets me 18, nearly 19 on the highway. Salt Lake City - Los Angeles 19.2. LA-Salt Lake City 18.6 mpg

14mpg combined city/highway. Just driving in town nets me around 10-12.

Re: sbc 383 expected gas mileage?

3.73's with a 700r4 is going to be alot different than mine, i got no lockup and 1 to 1 third. its about 3500 at 60. i wish i had built the 700 in hind sight but i traded a guy for my th400 which i didnt think i was going to have to build significantly for my engine. i was wrong. to the OP if the t5 doenst hold up dont get a turbo 350 or 400, get something to retain your OD if you care about mileage

i would guesstimate in the 10-14 range for mine but like i said i dont take it easy and take back roads because highways are not very comfortable rpm for cruising

My 67 Camaro has a 350, Holley 650, 4-speed manual and 3.42 gears. I get 15 highway in that running about 3000rpm at 65.
