replace egr intake with non egr

ok so a little history i have an 84 5.0 when i forst bought it i had to but an edelbrock carb to get it running and when i put it on i noticed it kinda took up alot of room so i had to loosen the egr for it to fit and i was thinking what if i replaced the intake manifold with one that doesnt have the egr would it make it worse or better or not even affect it at all

The first question to ask is, does where you are require emisisons inspections?

Second question. W hat kind of edelbrock carb did you buy? Did you replace the distributor with a non-computer controlled distributor at the same time?

The car will run fine without the EGR, but the computer will throw a code. Also, the car will not pass emissions with the EGR disconnected. It'll also fail the visual portion of the emissions check if there is one and it's not there.

Then go ahead and remove it, it won't affect anythng. The only issue will be that your computer may throw a code. However, if you leave the electrical connector connected even if the EGR is disconnected, I'm 90% sure that will keep the code from showing up.

You don't necessarily have to replace the intake if you want to get rid of the EGR. There are block off plates available for that purpose, or you can even make your own.

With an Edelbrock carb and vacuum/mechanical advance distributor, it should be throwing codes right now. Hooking up the EGR electrical connector won't change that.
