Need help with intake and carb!
Okay, so I am pretty sure this has been covered a million times before but I really had no idea how big of a mistake I had made. I recently picked up my z28 with a 350 swap with 305 heads on it. The heads are toast, and I managed to pick up a torn down 350 with with 2 perfect heads for $100. Main reason I picked up the 350 is for the heads was because I read so many horror stories about the 305/350 setup. The engine I bought is an 89 TBI engine out of an 89 blazer, and I did not know that they changed the heads in 87. (I have always worked with earlier 350s) I want to keep the carb setup already on the car, and am aware I will need the manifold. What I need to know is if I will need a new carb, and what intake manifold and gasket kit is best to use? I am working on a tight budget to get the car back on the road. Any help is appreciated and again sorry if all of this has already been asked and answered, I just want to make sure I am doing everything right.

Re: Need help with intake and carb!
if your talking about the 4 center intake manifold bolts being on a slightly different angle,...i've taken a drill and wallowed out the holes to the correct angle. it will seal up fine on the engine.
if you want to get creative, find some 3/8" pipe or tubing, cut it on the appropriate angles to fit between the bottom of the bolt and the top of the intake. i've made them about 1/4" long. doesnt take long. might need 4 slightly longer bolts though?

That sounds like what I might wind up having to do. I really can not afford to buy the new manifold and new carb, but if I can just do that I will. Do I just use the standard gasket kit then?

i'd use the gasket set for the heads.
it wont take but a minute to make sure every thing lines up while you have it apart.

Okay thank you! I will let you know how it goes. Any advice on what I should do to prevent cracking or warping the Intake manifold? Like I said I want to make sure I am doing everything right.

Re: Need help with intake and carb!
follow your normal torque sequence. i usually start in the middle and work my way out.
try not to over-tighten it the first time. snug it up, then go back over it for final torque.
i throw those rubber gaskets away for the china walls. just lay a thick bead of rtv silicone.
i use washers under the intake bolts, and on top of the 4 spacers. heres a crude drawing of the spacers i was talking about. sorry, i suk at drawing, lol.
