I have an 87 iroc-z with stock 305 carbuerated engine. At idle it will run until I shut it off at around 30psi oil pressure. When running, after driving for a little while, oil pressure gauge drops to around 10 psi at idle and around 30psi while accelerating. If I stop in gear car dies and will not restart. I replaced the oil pressure switch that controls the electronic fuel pump in the tank (which is the reason it would not start as the electric pump was not working after initial shutdown). Now it still starts out running well but oil pressure still drops a bit and rpms bounce. Any ideas what could be wrong? I'm being cautious right now about driving it too far from home as I do not want to get stranded again.

Forgot to mention it has an aftermarket cam in it so it idles around 1100-1200. It starts off fine but then idle raises to almost 2000 when the problem starts and the oil pressure drops and then the electric pump shuts down.

 

Replaced carb and fuel filter again. Still having issues with it bogging out. Any ideas?

 

Check your ignition control module and your ignition coil.
